Job Duties

As a Transportation Technician IV, your primary responsibilities will include the following:

Inspect contractor operations on roadway and bridge projects to verify plan compliance.
Supervise and support subordinate inspection staff throughout construction activities.
Measure, document, and track quantities of construction pay items accurately.
Maintain detailed records including certifications, testing reports, and daily inspection logs.
Coordinate with contractors, agencies, and the public to resolve field-related issues.
Apply engineering principles to address construction challenges and quality concerns.
Perform additional related duties as assigned to support project delivery.

Job Requirements

Successful candidates should meet the following qualifications and experience criteria:

Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology or a closely related discipline.
Minimum seven years of progressive technician-level experience or equivalent combination.
Active driver’s licence and successful completion of JMT motor vehicle screening.
Strong ability to analyse and interpret highway and bridge construction plans.
Proven experience managing projects independently with limited supervision.
Thorough knowledge of DOT standards, specifications, and roadway standard drawings.
Preferred NCDOT certifications including Concrete Field Technician and QMS Roadway Technician.
Strong verbal and written communication skills for field and stakeholder interactions.
