Eligibility Requirements
You qualify if you:
- Reside beyond the larger Philadelphia region.
- Must have finished a PhD or comparable professional degree before the fellowship begins.
- You are a self-directed academic with a notable scholarly background.
- Obtain a support letter verifying that your PhD will be finished by the start date (if you haven’t graduated already).
- Collaborative applications are encouraged, but remember that the $5,000 stipend needs to be divided.
Benefits of the Fellowship
SIMS is elevating its game with a fresh partnership with the American Trust for the British Library (ATBL). Beginning with this cycle, SIMS fellows can apply for an extra grant of $2,500 from ATBL to further their research at the British Library in the next year.
- Stipend: $5,000 for a research residency lasting one month (at least 4 work weeks).
- Duration: From July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026.
- Location: In-person at the Schoenberg Institute, UPenn Libraries.

There is a recommendation for proposals that incorporate digital tools such as BASIRA, VCEditor, the Schoenberg Database, or AI-based methods.
