SAD! Nigeria records first coronavirus death

Africa’s most populous country has reported the first death caused by the deadly coronavirus outbreak.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced the death on Monday morning.

Via Twitter, the NCDC disclosed that the victim was a 67-year-old man who returned to the oil-rich country after seeking medical attention for a separate health condition in the UK.

He was being treated for multiple myeloma and diabetes. At the same time, he was undergoing chemotherapy.

Nigeria has recorded 36 cases of the coronavirus, COVID-19. Two people have also been discharged from hospital after recovering.

There are over 1000 confirmed cases of coronavirus across the continent, with several African countries imposing a range of interventions to control the spread.

Deaths across the globe have crossed 15,000 with more than 340, 000 recorded cases.
