Peru is renowned for its kind people, stunning scenery, subtropical desert temperature, historical sites, and affordable cost of living. Overseas retirees chose Peru as their retirement destination because it’s very easy and quick to obtain a retirement visa, and you can live comfortably on a low income.

Applying for a residency visa will allow you to retire in Peru. There are now nine temporary residencies and eighteen residential visas available for Peru; however, the Peru Retirement Visa (also known as the Rentista Visa) is the most popular option among retirees.

Self-sufficient foreigners are permitted to live in Peru using a sort of temporary residency visa called the Rentista Visa.

Inquiring about Peru Retirement Visa Applications?

If you receive a state or private pension, other passive income, or at least $1,000 per month ($12,000 annually) or the equivalent in another currency, you are eligible to apply for a Peru Retirement visa. Your monthly revenue needs to come from sources outside Peru and come into the nation via a bank.

How Do I Apply for a Retirement Visa to Peru?

The National Superintendency of Migrations, the official website for Peruvian immigration, is where you can apply for a retirement visa. To begin the application, select “Rentista Residente” under the “Cambio de Calidad Migratoria” section. You can enter Peru after completing the application and receiving a confirmation.

You can apply in person at the Peruvian Consulate if you are unable to do so online. Remember that before you visit the consulate, you will need to schedule an appointment.

Conditions for a Retirement Visa to Peru

The following paperwork must be included with your application for a retirement visa to Peru:

  • Application for Rentista visa (form F-007. Signing the application is required.
  • Evidence of fee payment. Please present the Banco de la Nación payment receipt.
  • A copy of a passport or other travel document that is at least six months old. You have to be a regular migrant.
  • A formal declaration outlining your desire to profit from the annuitant’s migratory status.
  • Evidence of a clean criminal history. a formal documentation from your nation’s police department attesting to the fact that you have no criminal charges on file and no criminal history in both the national and international courts or police systems.
  • A copy of the original document issued by the nation from which your income originates, legalized, or verified by the DIGEMIN notary. This document, which needs to be apostilled or authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and authorized by the Peruvian Consulate, must ensure that you earn a permanent net income of at least $1,000.
  • Evidence that, in the case of revenue from a foreign source, the funds enter the nation through a banking institution.

NOTE: Prior to submission, each document submitted in a language other than Spanish must be translated into Spanish by a qualified translator.

Remember that at any point, Migraciones may need more or different documentation.

How long is a Peru Retirement Visa valid?

A Peru Retirement Visa, also known as a Rentista Visa, is good for an unlimited amount of time, but if you leave the nation for more than six months in a year, you risk losing it.

Can I Bring My Family With Me?

You are able to enter Peru with your spouse and kids if you have a retirement visa for the country. On the same day that you apply for yourself, you can complete the application for yourself and your dependents.

Remember that you will need to add an extra $500 for each dependent if your family wants to travel with you to Peru in addition to the necessary documentation.

Fees for Peru Retirement Visas

The payment process can be finished at any Banco De la Nación branch. A payment of $30 (105.60 SOL) is needed before you may connect the materials to a PDF file.

Using the travel document number you entered in Peru, you can cancel the payment.

After Retiring and Entering Peru

You can relocate to Peru after receiving a Peru Retirement visa. Once inside, you need to get an immigration card called a Carné de Extranjería (CE), which is given to foreigners who are legally staying in Peru for identification purposes. You can travel throughout the nation, buy mobile phones and internet service, and create a local bank account with a CE.

  • Type of residence visa
  • Your photograph
  • Full name
  • Nationality
  • Date of birth
  • Sex
  • Address
  • The number of Carné de Extranjería
  • Passport number
  • Date of issue of the card
  • Expiration date of Carné de Extranjería
  • The expiration date of residence visa

On the Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores website, you can apply for an identity card. Upon finishing the procedure, you will obtain a certificate containing the date on which you can pick up your Immigration Card at either the zonal headquarters or the Immigration Services Management main office in Lima, located at Prolongación Av. España 734, Breña.

NOTE: Since the Carné de Extranjería and your passport are linked, any changes must be reported to Migraciones within 30 days.

Can a Retirement Visa Grant Me Permanent Residency in Costa Rica?

Yes, after being in Peru for three years on a retirement visa, you are eligible to apply for permanent residence. You will be able to remain in the nation indefinitely if you have permanent residence, which needs to be renewed every five years. If you can prove that you understand Spanish and Peruvian culture, you can also seek to become a citizen.
