Reasons Your Visa Application Takes Longer Than Expected And How To Avoid It

When applying for one of Canada’s many immigration and visa programs, the hardest part is often having to wait. Because the process is complicated, there are many things that could be taking longer than expected. Four of the main reasons why applications take longer than expected are listed here.

Before your visa application can be approved, you have to pay all the necessary fees, just like with a lot of other government tasks. You might have forgotten to pay the right fees for a number of different reasons.

1. Failure to pay fees

One of the most common reasons for this is that the fee chart lists dozens of costs for each type of application. If you don’t add up all the fees, you might pay the wrong amount, which could delay your application.

2. Improper Paperwork

The paperwork and other documents you send with your visa application should have all the information the case officer needs to decide if your case is eligible. When the officer gets an application with mistakes or missing information, he or she will have to ask that these mistakes be fixed before moving forward.

3. Verification of Documentation and Data

Depending on the kind of information you send in with your immigration application, you may have to wait longer because the visa officer has to check with other departments to make sure everything is real.

If your ID was issued by an office outside of Canada, it may need to be checked again by the foreign office that issued it. This could add days or even weeks to the time it takes to process your application.

4. Unexpected Inadmissibility

All of Canada’s immigration rules are based on what people can’t do. Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) basically deny foreigners entry into Canada based on how they have behaved in the past, especially when it comes to health, money, and crime. People who have been in trouble with the law in the past, especially for serious or violent crimes, will have a hard time getting into the country. People with ties to organized crime or terrorism will also not be allowed in.

Other Factors That Can Cause Delay

  • Your medical checkup and security check take more time than usual.
  • Interview
  • Communicating by mail instead of using an online account
  • You don’t respond to our requests for information quickly
  • High number of Applications

Avoiding Delays and Rejection

To avoid delays or rejection of visa applications, make sure you:

  • Read the application guide for your type of immigration carefully and do what it says;
  • Properly fill out, sign, and date the application form(s);
  • If asked, provide biometrics (fingerprints and photos) as soon as possible, but no later than 30 days after receiving the request;
  • Include all the documents listed on the application checklist;
  • Pay the right fee using the right method, include the payment with your application, and check it twice before sending it in.
