Job Summary
Construction projects depend on accurate spatial data. Consequently, the person in this position shapes how engineers, planners, and project managers make decisions. You will measure land, map terrain, and verify survey data that guides major builds. Additionally, you will prepare cadastral maps that support compensation and resettlement programmes. Key Responsibilities
- Provide data relevant to the shape and contour of the Earth’s surface for engineering, map making, and construction projects
- Undertake land, topographic, and hydrographic surveys on site using specialist equipment and technology including drones and total stations
- Supervise the preparation of all data, charts, plots, maps, records, and documents related to surveys
- Analyse data using plans, maps, charts, and software such as AutoCAD and GIS programmes to produce survey reports
- Verify the mathematical correctness of newly collected survey data
- Prepare survey drawings for mega building construction, roads, and civil works
- Write descriptions and schedules of property boundary surveys for use in deeds, leases, and legal documents
- Provide advice on technical matters and assess whether construction plans are viable
- Plan or direct the work of geodetic surveying staff while offering technical consultation
- Prepare cadastral maps in ArcGIS of project affected areas for compensation distribution, resettlement, or rehabilitation
Qualifications
- B.Sc in Geodetic or Geomatic Engineering
- Five to ten years of working experience
- Ability to use surveying and mapping equipment including graduated rods, transits, levels, theodolites, fathometers, electronic distance meters, and global positioning systems
- Proficiency with Computer Aided Design (CAD) and map creation software
- Skill in creating and interpreting blueprints and drawing specifications
- Solid knowledge of Geography
