Job Title: Junior Cost Accountant (Fixed-Term Contract)

Company Overview

The Engineering Projects department at the Tarkwa Gold Mine is seeking a detail-oriented professional for a Junior Cost Accountant position. This is a two-year fixed-term contract, facilitated through a third-party contractor, focused on providing critical financial oversight for a major infrastructure project. The role is integral to ensuring fiscal discipline and accurate financial reporting within a dynamic mining environment.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Unit Manager for Engineering Projects, the successful candidate will play a key role in managing project costs for the HME Infrastructure Relocation Project. You will apply rigorous variance analysis and budgetary control principles to monitor all expenditures, ensuring they remain strictly within approved budget limits. This position offers invaluable experience in project accounting within a large-scale industrial operation.

Key Responsibilities

Your expertise will be central to the project’s financial health. Core duties will include:

First, you will prepare and coordinate all individual project budgets, consolidating them into a comprehensive master budget for the Tarkwa Mine Infrastructure Relocation Project.
You will meticulously interpret contractual clauses and rates, applying this understanding to review bills of quantities and validate related invoices.
A crucial responsibility involves applying relevant tax laws correctly to various business transactions to ensure compliance.
Furthermore, you will ensure the accurate and timely reconciliation of all project costs, maintaining clear and auditable financial records.
You will also liaise regularly with sectional supervisors to gather data and ensure the precise, timely dissemination of cost information.
Additionally, you will prepare detailed daily, weekly, and monthly cost reports, including insightful trends analysis for management review.
You will ensure full compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) internal control framework within your scope of work.
Finally, you will contribute to maintaining a safe working environment and support adherence to ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards in all engineering activities.

Required Qualifications & Experience

The ideal candidate will possess a solid foundation in accounting and project controls:

A Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting, Finance, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
A minimum of three years of direct working experience in a similar cost accounting or project controls role.
Excellent analytical, communication, and numerical skills, coupled with extensive hands-on knowledge of SAP systems.
A good understanding of the mining process value chain, key accounting standards, and risk management principles.
Excellent practical knowledge and application of the SOX compliance framework in financial management.
Strong commercial acumen and demonstrated leadership capabilities.
Medical fitness for the position and the mining environment is mandatory.
Possession of a valid Ghanaian driver’s licence.
