Job Title: Risk and Compliance Advisor

Job Description

UNOPS (United Nations Office for Project Services) provides critical implementation, advisory, and transactional services worldwide, helping partners achieve sustainable development goals. Our Risk and Compliance Group (RCG) serves as a central pillar for strengthening governance, ensuring operational integrity, and embedding a culture of accountability across all global activities.

We are building a qualified roster of Risk and Compliance Advisors for home-based or field-based assignments. This represents an exceptional opportunity to contribute your expertise to strategic initiatives that enhance risk management, internal controls, and compliance within a leading UN organization. You will engage with diverse global operations, develop innovative frameworks, and collaborate with professionals dedicated to advancing transparency and trust.

Role Overview

This position operates within the Risk and Compliance Group at UNOPS headquarters. You will provide expert advisory services across key functional areas, including internal control, compliance, due diligence, and enterprise risk management. Assignments may involve short-term or longer-term engagements, with potential travel to various global locations.

Key Responsibilities

Your contributions will focus on several critical areas:

Internal Control & Compliance: Design and implement robust internal control frameworks, conduct gap analyses, and develop compliance programs aligned with UN policies and best practices.
Due Diligence: Advise on integrity due diligence policies, conduct risk assessments, and develop mitigation strategies to safeguard operations against financial crime and integrity risks.
Risk Management: Enhance enterprise risk management frameworks, analyze systemic portfolio risks, and provide strategic advice to senior management for risk-informed decision-making.
Capacity Building: Develop and deliver training programs, workshops, and guidance to strengthen risk and compliance capabilities across headquarters and regional offices.
Reporting & Coordination: Analyze compliance data, prepare detailed reports and dashboards, and coordinate cross-functional solutions to address systemic issues.

Your Profile and Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

Master’s degree in Risk Management, Law, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field. A Bachelor’s degree with two additional years of experience may be accepted.
Minimum of seven years of progressive experience in compliance, risk management, internal controls, or due diligence within large international organizations.
Demonstrated expertise in at least four of the following: internal control frameworks, compliance program design, fraud risk management, control testing, AML/CFT, data analysis for risk assessment, dashboard development, policy development, or corporate risk response coordination.

Preferred Qualifications:

Professional certifications such as CAMS, CFE, CIA, or CCEP.
Experience within the UN system, Multilateral Development Banks, or developing country contexts.
Ability to thrive in multicultural, multilingual environments.

Skills and Competencies

Strong analytical, advisory, and communication abilities.
Proficiency in compliance management, data analysis, policy development, and capacity building.
