Position Summary

Tullow Oil presents an exceptional contract opportunity for a dynamic and experienced Major Works & Class Special Survey Engineer. This role sits within our Ghana Business Unit team on a 12-month contract basis. You will be based at our office in Accra, Ghana. This position is central to our offshore asset integrity and planned intervention campaigns. You will ensure our major works and special survey scopes are meticulously planned and execution ready. Consequently, you will directly contribute to the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of our FPSO assets.

Job Purpose

Reporting directly to the Major Works & Special Survey Lead, you will own the technical planning and development of complete, execution ready work packs for assigned non-routine maintenance and major works. Importantly, this is a planning function focused on scope definition, not a scheduling role. Your primary accountability is the quality and completeness of planning deliverables. You will define the scope, craft detailed methodologies, identify technical requirements, assess risks, and specify all necessary materials and services. Ultimately, you will guarantee that all engineering, logistical, and contractor interfaces are fully prepared to enable flawless offshore execution within the 28-day and 120-day planning horizons.

Key Responsibilities

Champion personal safety and strict adherence to all Company EHS policies, procedures, and safe systems of work at all times.

  • Ensure all contractors comply with established EHS standards and demonstrate consistent safe work practices.
  • Actively challenge unsafe conditions and escalate any EHS concerns to line management promptly.
  • Develop comprehensive, multi-disciplinary work packs that include full technical documentation, job step breakdowns, resource plans, materials take-offs, and risk assessments.
  • Confirm complete execution readiness for assigned scopes before offshore mobilisation, including materials, documentation, contractor readiness, and permits.
  • Interface proactively with subcontractors to secure the timely delivery of all fit-for-purpose materials and services.
  • Collaborate closely with discipline Subject Matter Experts to define execution ready scopes and resolve technical uncertainties.
  • Support procurement and logistics teams by clearly communicating scope priorities and critical material requirements.
  • Identify and actively participate in the Management of Change process when scope adjustments are necessary.
  • Mentor and share knowledge with junior team members, fostering development and strong team capability.

Required Experience & Skills

  • You must possess a BSc in an Engineering Discipline or hold Equivalent Vocational Qualifications.
  • You need a minimum of 10 years of proven experience in a similar role within the offshore Oil and Gas industry.
  • You must demonstrate strong involvement in non-routine maintenance, major works, or campaign-based execution activities.
  • You require a robust working knowledge of FPSO systems, operations, and the unique constraints of the offshore environment.
  • You should have a broad understanding of multi-disciplinary trade knowledge and applicable industry standards like API, ABS, and ASME.
  • Experience with brownfield modifications, life extension works, or classification society scopes is highly advantageous.
  • You must prove your ability to assess work packs for constructability, completeness, and execution readiness.
  • Proficiency with Computerised Maintenance Management Systems, particularly IBM Maximo, is a strong asset.
  • You need demonstrated ability to work under tight deadlines, manage dynamic change, and interface effectively with multiple contractors and vendors.
