Immigrate to Canada as a Registered Nurse | Get Approved in Weeks
Overseas nurses can now practice in Nova Scotia without further certification. Nova Scotia nurses have various opportunities, including:
- Hospitals: Nova Scotia has IWK Health Centre, Nova Scotia Health Authority, and Cape Breton Regional Hospital. These hospitals hire intense, acute, emergency, and mental health nurses.
- Nursing homes: Nursing homes and retirement communities in Nova Scotia hire nurses to care for residents.
- Community health: Community health centers, public health clinics, and home health care services employ nurses. These roles may involve health education, prevention, and support for people or families.
- Education: Many Nova Scotia universities and institutions offer nursing programs. Experienced nurses can teach, coach, or precept.
- Research: Nurses might work in universities, hospitals, and research centers. These roles may involve research, data analysis, and improving nursing practices and policies.
- Telehealth: As technology advances, nurses may be able to provide care and assistance remotely through telehealth.
- Nova Scotia nurses have many more chances.
LICENSING PROCESS FOR NURSES LICENCED IN DESIGNATED JURISDICTIONS
For foreign-educated nurses who want to work in Nova Scotia, licensing speeds up qualification evaluation and registration. RNs and LPNs could apply.
Internationally educated nurses (IENs) have to be proficient in English or French, have a valid work visa in Canada, and have a nursing degree comparable to Canadian requirements to qualify for this expedited process. The nurse’s education, training, job experience, and language skills were critically assessed.
The CRNNS and CLPNNS regulate the expedited licensing process.
Eligibility criteria
- Nurses must be licensed and in good standing with one of the jurisdictions mentioned. They must have a practicing license from one of the countries or a Canadian territory.
- Good standing indicates the professional nurse has no outstanding complaints with a health professional regulator and no limits, conditions, or agreements on the license or registration with the current regulator that would prevent licensing in Canada.
Application process
- Apply for NSCN.
- Show two IDs. Birth certificate, passport, nexus card, driver’s license, Canadian government-issued ID, citizenship card (Canadian or International), or others may be used. These IDs don’t need notarization.
- Ensure that the present regulator submits VOR directly to NSCN. If NSCN cannot verify this online, we will notify applicants and demand your current regulatory agency to submit a VOR document directly to NSCN.
- Provide ELP documentation to register and license with NSCN.
- Foreign-trained nurses: NSCN will assess English competency starting October 14, 2023. International nurses must provide language proficiency proof to NSCN. Check out THIS LINK for more information on how well you speak English.
- Criminal record checks (CRCs) must be done on all non-Canadian nurses and sent to NSCN. A Canadian criminal record check (CRC) may be required. A CRC gives criminal offense information to ensure nursing workers have the character and judgment to provide safe care.
