According to recent reports, Lord Tariq Ahmed, the UK’s deputy foreign minister, has confirmed that Indian undergraduate students are not covered by the visa regime. According to him, it is for students going to the UK to enroll in Ph.D. programs or take part in one-year research projects.
Tariq Ahmed, India’s foreign minister, aims to increase scientific and technological cooperation between India and the UK. To meet entrepreneurs and check out their inventions, he also intends to travel to Hyderabad.
He continued by saying that the UK government is aware of the advantages Indian students can bring to the country. He stated that undergraduates are always welcome in the fields of teaching and research.
The foreign minister reported that the authorities made a few changes to the visa requirements for Ph.D. and research students who spend a year in the UK but leave before completing their studies.
Note that his visit demonstrates the improvement in India-UK relations since the Prokalistan protests.
