Australia’s 10 Major Immigration Changes from 1st July 2023 | Massive reform | Australia Immigration

Are you aware that beginning on July 1st, 2023, there will be significant changes to Australian immigration? Many aspects of migration will be impacted by these changes. This will bring new guidelines and avenues that may affect your move to Australia.

The ten important immigration reforms that will take effect in Australia on July 1, 2023, as well as how they may affect you, are listed here.

1. Increase in Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT)

As of July 1, 2023, TSMIT will rise from its present value of AUD 53,900 to AUD 70,000. With this change, businesses that want to sponsor overseas employees must pay them a minimum of AUD 70,000 per year.

2. A Route for Holders of TSS Visas to Obtain PR

The temporary skill shortage category 482 visa holder now has a path to permanent residency. The Australian government wants to provide these visa holders with the choice of permanent residency by the end of 2023. This change provides better security for both firms and immigrants while increasing the level of competence in the permanent skilled migration program.

3. Elimination of LMT (Labor Market Testing)

Businesses will no longer be compelled to apply the labor market testing technique, which mandates that companies post job openings locally, for skilled individuals earning more than $70,000 per year. This change is intended to quicken the process of hiring highly qualified individuals.

4. Australian citizenship changes for New Zealanders

New Zealanders who have resided in Australia for four years or more will automatically qualify for Australian citizenship starting on July 1st, 2023. As a result, they no longer need to make an application for permanent residency. It is important to highlight that these changes apply to New Zealanders who arrived in Australia after February 26, 2001, and who possess special categories subclass 444 visas.

5. The Plan for Fewer Visa Subclasses

The Australian government wants to streamline the immigration process by consolidating several visa categories into one. The application process streamlining as a result of this consolidation, and immigration-related concerns will be handled more effectively as a result.

6. Prorated Skilling Australians Fund, SAF Levy

The introduction of a prorated SAF Levy is under consideration by the Australian government. The duration of the employee’s employer-sponsored visa will now determine the levy’s amount, making the levy payment more flexible and equitable.

7. Australia-United Kingdom Free Trade Agreement

New Arrangements currently made for the Working Holiday Maker (WHM) program and the youth Mobility plan as a result of the Australia-UK Free Trade Agreement, which took effect on May 31, 2023. From July 1, 2023, UK passport holders must be 18 to 35 years old to apply for a working holiday visa.

Thanks to the three working holiday visas granted to them without any specified job limits, additionally, more opportunities for travel and employment between the two countries.

8. Increase in Visa Application Fees

The visa application cost will increase by 6% to 40% as of July 1st, 2023. With an application price that reaches AUD 12,000, the Business Innovation and Investment Visa will experience the largest increase. Additionally, these changes will boost government revenue by $665 million over the next five years.

9. Work Restrictions for Student Visa Holders

Work restrictions for those with student visas reinstating from July 1st, 2023. Except for individuals who work in the aged care profession, all holders of student visas will be subject to a maximum restriction of 48 hours every two weeks. However, up until December 31, 2023, students in the aged care sector can work for a restricted number of hours.

10. Changes for Working Holiday Makers

Working holidaymakers now have the option to continue working for the same employer for an additional six months without obtaining permission. Working vacationers are eligible to continue working under this exception even if they started before July 1st, 2023. However, it’s imperative to confirm if the Visa has an extended period of validity.
