Haiti Launches iKat Digital Arrival Card to Streamline Border Entry Procedures

Haiti has launched a new digital tool called iKat, designed to make border entry easier for travelers. This online card allows visitors to fill out arrival and departure information before arriving in the country. By implementing iKat, the government hopes to reduce wait times and enhance accuracy in tracking information.

During a recent ceremony in Port-au-Prince, Haitian officials unveiled the iKat digital card, marking a significant development in the nation’s travel protocols. The event united government leaders, aviation stakeholders, and tourism experts who believe that this initiative will eventually phase out traditional paper forms.

Purpose of the iKat Card

The primary goal of iKat is to expedite and improve the reliability of border checks. By allowing travelers to complete their documents online in advance, immigration officials can process arrivals at airports, seaports, and land borders more efficiently. This digital approach provides a clearer understanding of who enters Haiti, along with their reasons for visiting and intended duration of stay.

Officials also indicate that the iKat system will enhance tracking for those exceeding the 90-day immigration limit. Additionally, it will foster better cooperation between various governmental agencies by simplifying data sharing.

How to Complete the iKat Card

Travelers headed to Haiti, including Haitians overseas, can easily fill out the iKat form online at delidoc.gouv.ht/ikat. It is recommended to complete this process up to 72 hours prior to arrival or departure. Failing to do so may require completion of the form at the airport or border, potentially causing delays.

Information Required on the Form

The iKat online form requests various details:

  • Personal Information: Include your name, nationality, date of birth, passport number and expiration, email, phone number, home address, and accommodation in Haiti.
  • Travel Itinerary: Please provide your travel dates, flight number or mode of transportation, origin, purpose of visit, and anticipated length of stay.
  • Customs Declarations: Notify authorities about traveling with family members, items to declare, large sums of money, food items, or any other relevant goods.
  • Health Information: List any health issues, countries recently visited, and an emergency contact.

Submission Process and What Comes Next

After submitting the iKat form, travelers will receive a downloadable PDF that includes a QR code. This document must be presented to immigration officers upon arrival in Haiti. Additionally, a unique nine-character alphanumeric code is provided, allowing travelers to modify their information if plans change.

The Impact of iKat

The introduction of iKat represents more than just a new online tool; it signifies Haiti’s commitment to modernizing its border management system. If successful, this initiative has the potential to reduce waiting times, enhance security checks, and provide a smoother travel experience for all visitors.
