About the Fellowship

The conference features over 150 expert panels and cutting-edge workshops. It also offers strong networking with colleagues from more than 100 countries. Journalists share innovative methods for holding power to account. Some speakers work in settings with limited press freedom. The last conference in Malaysia hosted nearly 130 fellows from 80 countries.

What Fellows Receive

Full fellows receive round-trip airfare and airport transfers. They also get four nights of hotel accommodation. Meals include breakfast and lunch on conference days. Fellows attend the opening reception and the award ceremony dinner. Their conference registration fee is also covered. GIJN may offer partial fellowships to some candidates.

Who Can Apply

Print, online, TV, radio, and multimedia journalists may apply. Freelancers in developing or transitioning countries are welcome. Investigative or data journalism experience is a plus. Applicants need working English, since sessions run in English. Journalists from countries not on the eligible list may still apply.

Required Materials

Applicants complete the online form in English. Competition is keen, so they must show how they will use the training. Fellows must later produce a related story or give a presentation.

How to Apply

Conclusion

This fellowship offers journalists rare access to world-class investigative training. Its generous coverage removes most major costs of attending. However, fellows must still pay for visas and their home-country transport. Check GIJN’s official page for the eligible countries list.
