Farm Jobs in Portugal with Visa Sponsorship for Foreigners ($16.55 an hour average Salary)

There are many work opportunities in Portugal for English speakers, but if you learn the language spoken by almost 200 million people, you will have even more options.

Portugal is one of the world’s major tourist destinations, with a fantastic location on the Iberian Peninsula with beaches ranging for more than 520 kilometers. It’s no surprise that the country attracts a large number of foreign employees who want to enjoy the Mediterranean climate and lifestyle.

Because the Portuguese economy is primarily reliant on tourism, there is an abundance of teaching English as a foreign language positions. With a 5.9% unemployment rate, competition for graduate positions is severe, particularly in big cities such as Lisbon and Porto.

That’s where a solid comprehension of and fluency in Portuguese will put you ahead of other foreign candidates who know little or nothing about the language. It is recommended that you take a course in your native country before beginning your job search.

How to Find Work in Portugal

Because there is so much rivalry for available positions, citizens of the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA) should start looking for work as soon as it is practically possible. If you are not a citizen of the EU, you are required to look for work and secure employment before traveling to the country.

When it comes to filling out online applications, some companies may ask the standard inquiries, while others may prefer open-ended queries. It is OK for a curriculum vitae to be up to three pages long, although the standard is still two pages. Cover letters should never be longer than one side of an A4 sheet. Unless otherwise specified, the language of submission for any and all applications is Portuguese.

Networking is absolutely necessary for people from other countries who are seeking work, and speculative job applications are actively encouraged, particularly at small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs).

When it comes to the candidate screening process, many businesses utilize many rounds of interviews in addition to psychometric or technical testing. Be prepared to wait in order to find out the results of the interviews because it could take some time.

Portugal Visas

If a UK national wishes to stay in Portugal for more than 90 days in any 180-day period, they must get a long-stay visa.

There are two kinds of visas: temporary stay (less than one year) and residence (more than one year). There are also several work visas available based on the type of work you do.

Non-EU nationals can obtain a residence visa only if they receive a documented job offer from a Portuguese business. Because businesses are urged to hire Portuguese citizens or EU nationals first, acquiring a work permit might be challenging.

If you do get a job, your company should provide you with a copy of your contract so you may apply for a residence permit from your local Portuguese Embassy – for UK citizens, this is the Embassy of Portugal in the United Kingdom in London.

Work permits are not required for EU, EEA, or Swiss nationals in Portugal. You have six months to find a job following which you must apply to the Portuguese Immigration Office for a residency permit.
