Job Summary

A prominent international banking institution seeks an accomplished Chief Risk Officer to direct enterprise risk management across its Africa West & Anglophone operations. Role Overview

As Regional CRO, you will architect and implement a comprehensive Enterprise Risk Management Framework that identifies, assesses, and mitigates significant risks across multiple jurisdictions. You will serve as the primary risk advisor to the Board and Regional management while cultivating a robust risk-aware culture throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain the bank’s Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework, ensuring alignment with strategic goals
Formulate and articulate clear risk appetite statements and tolerance limits for Board approval
Establish strong corporate governance systems and committee structures across regional affiliates
Provide independent “No Objection” endorsements for high-risk credit exposures as mandated by policy
Direct stress testing programs and scenario analyses to inform strategic decision-making
Monitor asset quality and collaborate with Remedial Management to reduce non-performing loans
Serve as primary regulatory liaison, ensuring transparency and adherence to international standards
Develop talent management strategies to attract, retain, and develop risk professionals across the region
Present comprehensive risk reports to the Board Risk Committee and Group leadership

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline; advanced degrees or certifications preferred
Minimum 10 years in financial institution risk management, with at least 5 at leadership level
Professional certifications such as FRM, CFA, or equivalent highly desirable
Deep understanding of Credit, Market, Liquidity, Operational, Cybersecurity, and ESG risks
Extensive experience with banking regulations, risk frameworks, and compliance standards
Proven track record in managing regulator and board-level engagements
Strong technical proficiency with risk management systems and analytical tools

Technical Competencies:

Advanced knowledge of Treasury products and derivative instruments
Expertise in market risk methodologies including VaR, EaR, Duration, and Convexity
Experience with Calypso, SunGard, or similar risk management platforms
Superior quantitative and analytical capabilities with keen business acumen

Personal Attributes:

Exceptional leadership presence with ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
Strategic thinker with foresight to anticipate emerging risks and trends
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and prioritization
Assertive decision-maker capable of working under pressure
