Canada issued 3000 invitations for CEC applicants
IRCC has granted 3,000 ITAs in the most recent Express Entry draw. This program-specific draw targets candidates in the Canadian Experience Class (CEC). To be considered for an invitation, applicants needed a minimum CRS score of 522.
The second draw of the week takes place today, after a program-specific lottery for Express Entry candidates recommended by the PNP on May 30. In addition to having the lowest CRS score of the year for a non-category-based selection draw, this is the first draw for CEC candidates since September 14, 2021.
Additionally, since category-based selection was established in May 2023, this week’s draws are the first program-specific draws. Both PNP and CEC candidates have a significant number of temporary residents living and working in Canada. These drawings reflect the IRCC’s previously announced aim to hold more “domestic draws” to help more temporary residents become permanent residents and reduce the total number of temporary residents in Canada.
IRCC resumes program-specific express entry draws after a month-long pause.
Unlike general draws, which accept applications from all programs, program-specific draws focus solely on candidates in the Express Entry pool who applied through a specific permanent residency program.
On May 30, Express Entry held its first draw since April 24 after a month. The IRCC hasn’t explained the break. A new access request states that all of this year’s draws will follow a secret schedule. Admissions targets for 2024 and 2025 and processing capacity will affect draw size and frequency.
In April, there were four draws before the break. On April 10th, 1,280 people were asked to participate in the month’s first general draw. The following day, 4,500 ITAs were awarded to Express Entry applicants in a category-based STEM selection draw.
The two most recent draws were placed on April 23rd and 24th. IRCC conducted a general draw of 2,095 candidates on April 23, followed by a selective draw based on French proficiency categories on April 24 that welcomed 1,400 individuals.
French is expected to be the primary focus of category-based selection draws in 2024, according to a recent access to Information Request. The IRCC attributes this to the high employment rates among individuals who speak two languages. Furthermore, the agency stated that candidates who are fluent in French often earn higher CRS scores, increasing their prospects of successful economic integration.
STEM vocations will receive the second-highest number of ITAs, accounting for 25% of all awards in 2024. 15% of all ITAs will go to healthcare jobs, while 5% or less will go to industries including trade, transportation, agriculture, and agri-food.
General drawings will be utilized to distribute the remaining 21.5% of ITAs. It’s noteworthy that program-specific draws aren’t indicated in the data.

Understanding Express Entry—The Key to Immigrating to Canada
Canada’s three main economic immigration streams are the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Canadian Experience Class, and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). Express Entry serves as the administrative foundation. While these programs have varying qualifying requirements, they all use the same assessment mechanism, the CRS.
The CRS evaluates applications based on a variety of characteristics that characterize the applicant’s human capital, such as age, education level, career history, employment, language proficiency, and whether they are coming to the country with a partner. The total CRS score is calculated by assigning point values to each of these factors. A higher score increases your chances of receiving an ITA for the next Express Entry draw.
IRCC also introduced category-based selection draws as part of the Express Entry system in May 2023. Furthermore, this chooses applicants for target occupations based on specialized expertise or language skills from six predefined categories:
- Agriculture and food occupations
- Healthcare occupations
- Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) careers
- Transport occupations
- Carpenters, plumbers, and contractors are examples of trade occupations.
- Show strong French proficiency.
These categories are intended to remain in effect until 2024, however they may be altered in 2025. Furthermore, people wishing to enter the nation through these routes must be active participants in the Express Entry pool and complete any additional requirements specific to their chosen immigration category.
