BC PNP Requirements for International Students in Canada

If you are an international student in British Columbia, Canada, you may have heard of BC PNP. For international students, the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program has some special programs with specific requirements.

British Columbia is home to some of the best colleges and universities in North America, which is why it gets a lot of international students every year. Many provincial immigration programs give foreign students who studied at certain Canadian or British Columbia schools the chance to become permanent residents.

This guide will look at each of these BC PNP requirements for international students and tell you if these programs can help you move to Canada.

Different BC PNP Programs for International Students

Under the British Columbia PNP for International Students, there are two main programs. These are the Graduate Category for International Students and the Post-Graduate Category for International Students.

Each of the above programs also has a different way to apply for Express Entry that is not part of the main program. So, international students can get a British Columbia PR through one of four programs. These are:

  • International Graduate Category
  • EEBC International Graduate Category
  • International Post-Graduate Category
  • EEBC International Post-Graduate Category

International Graduate Category.

This stream is for international students who have a diploma or degree from a Canadian College or University that is known and respected. Students who want to apply through the BC PNP International Graduate category usually need a job offer in the National Occupation Classification (NOC) TEER 1, TEER 2, or TEER 3 category.

EEBC International Graduate Category

This stream is also for international students who have a diploma or degree from a Canadian College or University that is known and respected. These graduates will also need an offer of employment under NOC TEER 1, 2, or 3.

Also, they must be eligible for at least one of the following Express Entry Programs:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program
  • Canadian Experience Class

The Canadian Experience of the Federal Skilled Trades Program Class Graduates who want to apply for this BC PNP program for international students must first make sure they have an active Express Entry profile and a Job Seeker Validation Code.

International Post-Graduate Category

This stream is for international students who have a Master’s degree or a Doctorate in certain fields from a well-known college or university in British Columbia. Students who apply through this BC PNP International Post-Graduate category do not need a job offer to be eligible.

EEBC International Post-Graduate Category

This stream is also for international students who have a Master’s or Doctorate from a recognized British Columbia College or University in a certain field of study. These graduates don’t have to have a job offer in order to apply.

International Post-Graduate candidates must make sure they are eligible for at least one of the three Express Entry Programs.

Before applying for this program, post-graduates must make sure they have an active Express Entry profile and a Job Seeker Validation Code.

International students who want to apply to any of the above programs must meet some standard BC PNP requirements.

General rules for all categories of the BC PNP for international students:

  • Having the intention of living in British Columbia
  • Proving that they are good for the economy of British Columbia
  • Have good language skills (at least CLB 4)
  • Having a legal right to stay in Canada
  • Below are descriptions of the extra requirements for each program.

International Graduate Category

If you want to apply through the International Graduate Category, you must also have:

  • Job Offer: A signed letter says they have a job offer for full-time work in a NOC TEER 1, 2, or 3 positions. Applicants who already have a job offer under NOC TEER 0 cannot use this category.
  • Education: A diploma or degree from a college or university in Canada, earned through a program that lasted at least eight months. This education credential must have been earned no more than three years before the candidate applies. This type of immigration does not include programs for learning at a distance.

EEBC International Graduate Category

For the Express Entry British Columbia International Graduate Category, applicants must have:

  • Job Offer: A signed letter says they have a job offer for full-time work in a NOC TEER 1, 2, or 3 positions. Applicants who already have a job offer under NOC TEER 0 cannot use this category.
  • Education: A valid diploma or degree from a college or university in Canada that was earned through a program that was at least eight months long. This education credential must have been earned no more than three years before the candidate applies. This type of immigration does not include programs for learning at a distance.
  • You must be eligible for an Express Entry program: The candidate must make sure they are eligible for one or more Express Entry programs.
  • Express Entry Profile Number: The Express Entry Profile Number must be valid for the EEBC candidate. They can get this by making an Express Entry Profile and sending it to Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Code for Verifying a Job Seeker After the Express Entry Profile is sent to IRCC, the candidate must get the four-digit Job Seeker Validation Code.

International Post-Graduate Category

A valid Master’s or Doctoral degree from a college or university in British Columbia in one of the following areas:

  • Agriculture, agriculture operations, and similarly related sciences
  • Natural resources conservation
  • Physical sciences
  • Engineering technology and engineering-related fields
  • Mathematics and statistics
  • Engineering
  • Health professions or related programs
  • Biological and biomedical sciences
  • Computer and information sciences and support services

This education credential must have been earned no more than three years before the application. This type of immigration does not include programs for learning at a distance.

EEBC International Post-Graduate Category

Those who want to apply through the Express Entry British Columbia International Post-Graduate Category must have:

  • Education: A Master’s or Doctoral degree in one of the fields listed in the International postgraduate category from a college or university in British Columbia. This education credential must have been earned no more than three years before the application. This type of immigration does not include programs for learning at a distance.
  • Eligibility to Qualify for an Express Entry Program: The candidate must make sure they are eligible for one or more Express Entry programs.
  • Profile Number for Express Entry: The EEBC candidate must have a valid Profile Number for Express Entry. They can get this by making an Express Entry Profile and sending it to Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
  • Job Seeker Validation Code: After sending in their Express Entry Profile, candidates must get the four-digit Job Seeker Validation Code that IRCC gives them.
