Australia Visa Age Limit and Exemptions in 2024 | Australia Visa Update

Making the most of your immigration trip can be facilitated by being aware of the age restrictions for Australia’s various migration programs, should you be considering relocating there but are unaware of the requirements. Before all else, it’s important to comprehend Australia’s visa age limits, as well as the various Visa Subclasses and their prerequisites.

General Skilled Migration Visas Subclass 189, Skilled Nominated Visa Subclass 190, and Temporary Skilled Regional Visa Subclass 491 are the three main subclasses of the skilled migration program. The Employer Nomination Visa Subclass 186, Regional Sponsorship Visa Subclass 494, and Temporary Skill Shortage Visa Subclass 482 are other categories.

We will provide comprehensive updates on the age requirements for all common Australian visas in this blog, along with the most recent information on Australian visa application

Age Limits and Options for Migrants over 45

Age Limit for General Skilled Migration Visas

Regretfully, the 45-year-old age limit for General Skilled Migration Visa applications is non-negotiable. Moreover, if your birthday falls on a day when you turn 45 and you have already submitted your Expression of Interest and are waiting for an invitation, you are no longer eligible. On the day you reach 45, you receive an automated email from Skill Select informing you that your EOI has been ended.

Age Limit for Employer Migration Visas

Regarding age constraints, there are a few distinctions between the 482 Temporary Skill Shortage Visa and the employer visa age requirements. If you are over 45, you will not be eligible to apply for a permanent Employer Visa 186 in the future unless specific requirements are satisfied.

The rare circumstances under which an applicant may be eligible for an age exemption are outlined in a legislative document. These circumstances include certain medical professionals and academic staff, researchers, scientists, some New Zealand nationals, and those with 482 visas who meet the high-income threshold and have been sponsored for at least three years.

Although the Regional Sponsorship Visa for 494 is a temporary visa with a 45-year-old age limit, the same exemptions apply to it as well.

Age Limit Update for Temporary Graduate Visa

The Australian government added new details about the age restriction for this visa to their website on April 24, 2024. The Graduate Workstream and the Post-Study Workstream now have a lower age requirement of 35 years or under. British National Overseas passport holders and those from Hong Kong will continue to be eligible as long as they are under 50.

Before these adjustments take effect on July 1, 2024, legislative modifications must be enacted; the most recent version did not provide a timeframe.

Age Limit for Student Visa Subclass 500

There is no maximum age limit in Australia when requesting a student visa. However, the Department of Home Affairs will take your age into account while determining your eligibility. After taking a break in certain circumstances, an applicant may in some cases travel to Australia to pursue a master’s degree. The candidates must give a justification for their sabbatical leave, which may include information about their prior career or additional education.

In general, applicants over 40 may find it challenging to apply for a student visa without the necessary supporting paperwork. If you are under the age of 18, you must have specific welfare arrangements to study in Australia.

Options for Migrants over 45 years

If you are 45 years of age or older, you have very little chance of moving via the Skilled Migration Program, therefore you shouldn’t focus on it. While the Global Talent Visa has a 55-year-old maximum age limit, there may be other requirements, such as being a highly qualified professional, to be eligible to apply for one of these visas.

An additional choice is the Investor Visa Program, which is limited to individuals who can invest $1 million to $5 million in Australia and has an age restriction of 55 years. Additional exclusions are provided by the Australia DAMA program.
