Australia Sponsorship Visa for Aged Care Workers 2023 | Australian Government Visa

Employers are now able to sponsor foreign caregivers for the elderly in Australia. The Aged Care Industry Labor Agreement (ACILA) would make it easier for Australian aged care providers to hire elderly care providers from abroad.

It could end up being a crucial option for the country’s industry, which has long struggled with a labor shortage.

What’s New for Aged Care Workers in Australia

On May 5, 2023, Alex Hawk Services and Multicultural Affairs openly discussed extending the Aged Care Industry Labor accord, which led to the announcement of the accord. This extension has resulted in the addition of four additional roles to an already larger range of professions. These are some of them:

  • Personal care assistance
  • Nursing Support workers
  • Aged or Disabled carers
  • Therapy Aides

As long as it is covered by a labor agreement, a candidate who meets the requirements and has sufficient work experience in the aged care sector at home may apply for sponsorship on the TSS 482 visa. It should be noted that the validity of this Visa is for four years.

However, if the employee still possesses a Certificate III in elderly care after two years and is under 45, their employer may sponsor them for a permanent employer visa subclass 186. They would thus qualify for a permanent visa after two years. Conversely, a visa candidate can apply for a student visa to study English and aged care in Australia even if they have no qualifications and no prior work experience in the aged care industry.

Upon acquiring the required training or work experience equivalent to 12 months of full-time employment in Australia’s aged care sector, individuals can commence working in an elderly care facility. Subsequently, they can apply for sponsorship on their TSS 482 visa. In case you were wondering, this visa has a four-year validity period.

However, after two years, if the employee is under 45 and has a Certificate III in elderly care, the company may propose them a permanent employer visa under class 186. Similar to the prior case, the applicant can be qualified for a permanent visa after four years.

Requirements to work in Australia’s Aged Care Industry

  • To qualify, you need an Australian Certificate III in Aged Care or 12 months of full-time experience. Having 24 months of part-time experience as an aged care worker in Australia is also considered.
  • If you have relevant expertise from another country, a skills evaluation will be required.
  • Additionally, you must have a five on the IELTS to demonstrate that you are at least proficient in English.
  • You must also have a work offer from an Australian elderly care facility that is covered by a labor agreement in addition to this.

The recent and upcoming reforms to the Aged Care Industry Labor Agreement are encouraging Australian businesses. They believe that these reforms will greatly enhance the efficiency of hiring foreign aged care staff. In the end, it would aid in resolving the issue of a labor shortage in the aged care industry.
