Australia Psychology Graduate Scholarships 2027
Students planning a future in psychology often face a familiar challenge. How can you finance postgraduate training while securing a clear pathway into professional employment? Australia’s Psychology Graduate Scholarship Program 2027 is attempting to solve both problems at once.
The scholarship program supports future school psychologists in New South Wales (NSW). It is now inviting applications from eligible psychology graduates and final year students. Unlike many traditional scholarships that only provide financial support, this opportunity combines funded postgraduate education with a pathway to permanent employment within the NSW public school system.
For aspiring psychologists who want to work directly with children, adolescents, families, and educational communities, this scholarship may represent one of the most structured graduate entry opportunities currently available in Australia.
What Makes This Scholarship Different
The Psychology Graduate Scholarship Program specifically targets students who intend to become school psychologists through the NSW School Counselling Service.
Successful scholarship recipients will undertake the Master of Professional Psychology (School Psychology). Charles Sturt University delivers this specialised program exclusively for scholarship recipients. Upon successful completion, graduates transition into permanent full time school psychologist positions within NSW public schools.
Rather than searching for employment after graduation, scholars enter a pathway that links academic training directly to workforce placement.
Scholarship Benefits
Selected applicants can expect benefits that extend beyond tuition support. Here is what the scholarship offers:
- Master of Professional Psychology (School Psychology): Funded training in a specialised program
- Structured Professional Training: Clear pathway from study to practice
- Direct Entry Route: Access to the NSW School Counselling Service
- Permanent Employment: Full time school psychologist appointment upon successful completion
- Professional Supervision: Career development and mentoring support
- Long Term Prospects: Employment within the NSW public education sector
- Community Impact: Contribute to student wellbeing and mental health services across NSW schools
Program of Study
The scholarship supports enrolment in the Master of Professional Psychology (School Psychology). Charles Sturt University delivers this program exclusively. The university developed it specifically for scholarship recipients entering the school psychology profession.
Who Can Apply
To be eligible, applicants must have completed or be completing a four year sequence of psychology studies. The Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) must accredit these studies. You must be eligible to apply for the Master of Professional Psychology (School Psychology). If currently enrolled, you must successfully complete your fourth year of psychology studies before the end of 2026. You must meet university admission requirements for postgraduate psychology study.
Current students completing their fourth year during 2026 remain eligible to apply for entry into the 2027 cohort. They must successfully complete their studies before program commencement.
Academic Requirement: Applicants should normally possess a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of at least 75. Students concerned about their academic standing should discuss eligibility directly with Charles Sturt University.
Can Teachers Apply
Yes. Teachers interested in transitioning into psychology related roles may apply. Separate retraining pathways exist for teachers wishing to become school counsellors. However, teachers can also apply for the Psychology Graduate Scholarship Program. Upon completion, they receive appointment as school psychologists.
Selection Process
The selection process follows four stages.
- Stage 1: Eligibility Screening: Reviewers confirm that all eligibility requirements are met.
- Stage 2: Written Application Assessment: Assessors evaluate application responses, academic performance, referee statements, and nominated staffing areas.
- Stage 3: Online Live Assessment: Shortlisted candidates participate in a live assessment conducted through Microsoft Teams.
- Stage 4: Final Selection: Final decisions consider application quality, academic performance, live assessment outcomes, university admission requirements, and staffing area preferences.
The Department may give preference to applicants willing to work in rural NSW communities. Demand for school psychologists remains particularly strong in these areas.
Referee Requirements
Applicants must provide a professional referee statement. The primary referee should generally be a current workplace supervisor, a principal for applicants currently employed in schools, a thesis supervisor, or a psychology related professional supervisor. Referees must comment professionally on your suitability for the role of school psychologist. Personal references will not receive acceptance.
