The US mission in Accra, Ghana is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Development outreach and communication (DOC) in the Regional Program Office of USAID/West Africa (WA). The DOC specialist will report directly to the senior DOC specialist in USAID/Wa Regional programme office. S/he will collaborate closely with more than 50 technical office team members and implementing partner communications contacts to implement USAID/WA communication outreach strategy.
In addition s/he works closely with international, regional, in-country public relations and media contacts along with the US Embassy public affairs section (PAS) in various embassies to ensure that embassy personnel are properly apprised of USAID/WA activities and projects, and that US outreach and communication efforts are coordinated effectively and efficiently. The DOC specialist also liaises with USAID’s Bureau for legislative and public affairs (PA) in Washington DC.
USAID/WA manages the US Government development projects throughout West Africa including very high profile Presidential Initiatives such as feed the future, Power Africa, the Young Africa Leaders Initiative and the Global Health Initiative which includes the President’s emergency plan for AIDS relief.
The DOC specialist will also respond to communication outreach needs from implementing partners and support offices in Benin, Cameroon and Côte d’Ivoire.
EDUCATION AND PRIOR WORK EXPERIENCE
Completion of Bachelor degree in public relations, communication, journalism or other relevant areas and at least (5) years of progressively responsible experience i n related fields, with more than three years of experience in public relations, communication and/or journalism and demonstrated track record in writing includes speeches, press release, internet content, newsletters, fact sheets etc. Fluency in English (level IV) and French (level II) with written and oral communication skills are required
