Background Information

Ghana Statistical Service will be organising its sixth post-independence decennial Population and Housing Census (PHC) in 2020. The PHC is the largest field operation in the national data collection effort. Substantial effort is required to ensure that the extensive activities of the PHC are welly coordinated and timely implemented with the cooperation of all stakeholders, including public institutions, households and individuals across the regions and districts of the country.

The Data Collection Officer will be responsible for ensuring complete coverage, collection of quality data, and adhere to professional and ethical practices in data collection.

GSS therefore, invites interested persons who are goal-oriented, results­ driven, possess leadership qualities and are well known and respected within their districts, to apply online for the position of Data Collection Officer.

Qualifications

A minimum of WASSCE/SSSCE or it’s equivalent

REQUIREMENTS FOR ONLINE REGISTRATION

1. Residential address including digital address
2. Employment status and experience (if any)
3. Age, sex, nationality
4. National ID (passport, driving license, voters ID or national/ ecowas ID)
5. Personal and emergency contact person’s phone numbers
6. Email address
7. Most recent digital or electronic passport size picture with white background (at most three months old)
8. District of interest for field data collection
9. School certificate ID number

Responsibilities

1. Identify boundaries of the assigned Enumeration/Supervisory Areas (EAs/SA) with the aid of maps
2. List all structures and enumerate all persons in the EA
3. Obtain comp(ete and accurate responses from respondents and capture them correctly during the enumeration exercise
4. Report daily progress of work to assigned superiors
5. Sync data daily to assigned superior
6. Ensure security of all census materials and equipment and account for same
7. Support publicity of the census exercise in the area of placement for field work and
8. Any other duties assigned to the data collection officer

Key Competencies

1. Good communication skills
2. Ability to use smartphones or tablets for data collection
3. Self-motivated with fervent commitment to duty
4. Fluent in a local language of the District of interest for field work

3. Community engagement in a development activity
