Job Title: Drainage/Hydraulics Engineer

Role

The selected candidate will be responsible for Hydraulic / Hydrologic design and plan production for civil engineering in a wide variety of transportation (highway and bridge) projects and associated civil engineering activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review and assess hydrologic, hydraulic and levee analysis and documentation
  • Support, track and monitor project status
  • Perform quality assurance checks of hydrologic and hydraulic models, graphics and reports
  • Design and oversee projects including dams, waterways, beaches and waste systems
  • Write clear, concise, and accurate technical and non-technical reports, correspondence, memorandums, and specifications
  • Monitor and repair hydraulic equipment such as turbines, tanks, conduits, pumps and pressure valves
  • Use computer technology to calculate flow statistics
  • Numerical hydraulic and hydrologic modeling experience using the discipline-standard models, including HEC-HMS, HEC-1, HEC-RAS, HEC-2, HY-8, SWMM, TR-55, and TR-20
  • Lead and perform general civil engineering design, including roadway, paving, grading, drainage, and H&H; water and sanitary sewer is a plus
  • Travel to other offices and provide support on projects will be required on a sporadic basis
  • Perform limited field observations in support of construction and data collection

Required Skills/Experience

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Working knowledge of MicroStation Geopak Drainage and VDOT experience a plus.
  • E. License required

Requirement

  • Experience with Microstation and Geopak Drainage preferred
  • Experience with erosion and sediment control
  • Ability to manage and coordinate concurrent assignments
  • Excellent knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic processes
  • Ability to plan, schedule work and complete work assignments within established budgets and timelines
  • Desired experience should include storm drainage design, stormwater management and BMP analysis
  • Must have understanding of LID concepts and facility design and floodplain studies
  • Must be familiar with HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, TR-55 and/or other similar hydrologic, hydraulic and drainage engineering design software.
