POSITION: Planning Manager

A Role of Strategic Significance
The Manager, Planning position transcends traditional scheduling responsibilities. You will take ownership of developing, integrating, and governing all mine planning inputs while overseeing reserves, capital AFE, resource strategy, and business improvement initiatives. Your leadership will enable effective coordination between technical disciplines, ensuring planning assumptions remain valid and outputs inform execution and performance measurement. Consequently, we seek an individual who combines deep technical expertise with strong leadership capabilities and strategic vision.
Core Accountabilities
Your leadership will encompass these critical functions:
- Demonstrate and uphold AngloGold Ashanti’s values in all decisions, actions, and professional conduct
- Actively support full compliance with site safety requirements while fostering a culture of zero harm
- Lead medium-term planning procedures and succession planning, including quarterly and annual forecasting cycles
- Establish and maintain planning standards and procedures ensuring consistency and quality
- Lead the design and scheduling of operating development supporting efficient and safe extraction
- Ensure inclusion of geological function outputs into the life-of-mine plan
- Liaise with key corporate stakeholders to align the life-of-mine plan with strategic objectives
- Evaluate and compare life-of-mine scenarios to optimize long-term value and risk management
- Ensure planning and prioritization of capital infrastructure projects for mine development
- Assess technical and economic viability of new mining projects to support investment decisions
- Conduct cut-off grade analyses to guide economic extraction and optimize resource utilization
- Develop, integrate, and govern medium-term to long-term plans ensuring alignment with life-of-mine strategy
- Ensure integration of medium-term plans with long-term strategies and short-term execution schedules
- Review and endorse medium-term scenarios and production forecasts for tactical decision-making
- Incorporate void model updates into all planning horizons
- Incorporate Ground Control Management Plan deliverables across all planning horizons
- Incorporate Ventilation Management Plan deliverables across all planning horizons
- Provide technical mentorship and leadership to planning engineers building capability and succession
Required Qualifications and Experience
Educational Foundation:
- Candidates must hold a tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
- Advanced training in mine planning, scheduling, and production software, particularly Deswik CAD & IS, remains essential.
- Membership of a recognized professional body provides a distinct advantage.
Professional Experience:
- We require a minimum of eight years of progressive experience in underground mine planning with demonstrated advancement in senior technical leadership roles. This experience must include strong background in Life of Mine planning, mineral reserve estimation, strategic scheduling, and integration of multiple planning horizons.
- Proven experience in capital evaluation, business planning, and delivery of planning inputs for financial forecasting and AFE development remains critical.
Technical Expertise:
- In-depth understanding of Deswik CAD and Scheduler with experience managing design standards and compliance proves essential.
- Demonstrated ability to oversee multi-disciplinary planning teams coordinating across geology, geotechnical, ventilation, survey, and operations will distinguish top candidates.
- Experience in stakeholder engagement including presentations to technical committees, leadership teams, and external reviewers is fundamental.
