Acquiring a Work Permit Through International Experience Canada

This article is for young professionals and students interested in obtaining a work permit through International Experience Canada. IEC has a few programs that encourage young professionals from member nations to work and live in Canada temporarily. Foreign nationals who become qualified for any of the IEC programs will be able to apply for a work permit in Canada without having to meet the LMIA requirements. The IEC allows candidates to stay in the nation temporarily with work visa permits for at least a year.

Work permits are approved via a random draw mechanism. Not all foreign nationals who file EOIs will be eligible for this program. Furthermore, the quotas for each program as well as Canada will determine the applicant’s success with IEC. The IEC operates three unique programs that include general eligibility requirements. Additionally, ambitious candidates must meet the qualifying standards for certain programs. Each IEC program has its own set of standards that candidates must meet, resulting in a unique work permission form.

Notably, the IEC includes the following three programs:

  • Working Holiday;
  • Young professionals;
  • International Co-op Internship

As a result, they have excellent international travel and employment opportunities.

Working Holiday Visa

The Working Holiday Visa category is best suited for young people who do not have a Canadian work offer. Furthermore, it is for people who want to work for several employers in Canada. Successful Working Holiday program applicants are issued Open Work Permits, which do not limit them to a single business. Instead, it allows them to choose alternative employment and locations. This program is an excellent option for foreign nationals from specific nations looking for the following:

Young professionals

The Young Professionals Program allows foreign nationals to gain professional Canadian work experience with a Canadian business. To be eligible for the program, the candidate must have received a job offer from a Canadian firm. Successful and qualifying applicants to this program will receive an employer-specific work visa, which will allow them to work for only one employer. The site will be the same throughout the country.

  • This program is a wonderful option for those from specified nations who seek the following:
  • Those who receive an employment offer from a Canadian employer, consequently, further their professional development.
  • Individuals will work for a fixed employer at a fixed location in Canada.
  • People who recognize that this will be paid labour separate from self-employment.

To contribute to their professional growth, they must be working in a job that falls under NOC Skill Level O, A, or B. Each year, the quotas for this program vary across the selected countries.

International Co-operative

The International Co-op Program allows international students to complete an internship or work placement in Canada as part of their postsecondary education requirements. This program requires applicants to have a job offer, work experience, or an internship in Canada. Any of these must be required for the completion of their academic program. Successful applicants are granted an employer-specific work visa, which allows them to work for the same employer at a fixed location in Canada.

Foreign people from specific countries might choose this program if they want the following:

  • International students enrolled at a post-secondary institution.
  • Those who can demonstrate a work placement, internship, or job offer in Canada.
  • Internships might be paid or unpaid, depending on the province’s legislation.
  • Your job must be with a permanent company in a defined area in Canada.

International Experience Canada: The key actions to apply

Foreign nationals wishing to apply for an IEC program must complete the following steps:

IEC profile creation

Once candidates have confirmed their country’s participation in the International Experience Canada Program and selected their program, they must create an account on the IEC’s official website. If they meet the qualifying standards, their profiles will be added to the IEC pool.

Obtain an ITA

International Experience Canada frequently holds candidate draws. Eligible IEC candidates are often invited to apply. In addition, additional quotas will exist and will vary depending on the country and program. As a result, candidates must check Canada’s quotas to better evaluate their chances of acquiring an ITA.

Invitation to Apply Acceptance

Candidates that receive an ITA will have ten days to accept their invitation. Once they accept it, they will have 20 days to apply for a work permit. If an applicant declines to accept an ITA, they will be returned to the pool and acknowledged in subsequent draws.

Work permit application submission

After receiving an invitation to apply, a foreign citizen has 20 days to submit a digital work permit application using the IRCC web portal. Additionally, candidates must study document requirements ahead of time in order to successfully complete the application.

Receiving the work permit

Once a successful application obtains a work permit confirmation, they will also receive information about the work authorization period of validity.
