POSITION: Maintenance Foreman 

Underground Mining Alliance Akyem (UMAA), a joint venture between AUMS and Rocksure International, is a key contractor for the AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine. We are seeking to employ a qualified and experienced Maintenance Foreman. Job Description and Core Responsibilities

The Maintenance Foreman is responsible for supervising the daily maintenance activities of the mechanical and electrical teams underground. Your primary objective is ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely maintenance of mining equipment to minimize downtime and maximize operational productivity.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

You will lead maintenance operations, ensuring safety, quality, and team development.

  • Supervise preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance for all underground equipment, including loaders, drill rigs, and ventilation systems.
  • Allocate daily tasks to technicians and artisans, optimizing manpower and resources effectively.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety procedures and company policies in all maintenance activities.
  • Monitor equipment performance, identify recurring issues, and initiate appropriate improvement solutions.
  • Review and validate maintenance work orders and reports within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Respond promptly to equipment emergencies to minimize downtime and support continuous production.
  • Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) of equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Report on maintenance performance, equipment availability, and key metrics to supervisors.
  • Coach and mentor maintenance personnel, identifying training needs to support skills development.
  • Conduct quality inspections to ensure maintenance work complies with technical standards.
  • Collaborate with the planning team to ensure the timely availability of spare parts and materials.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent technical qualification. Relevant professional certifications are an added advantage.
  • Possess five to seven years of hands-on maintenance experience in an underground mining environment.
  • Have at least two years of experience in a supervisory or foreman-level role.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of specific underground mining equipment, such as loaders (e.g., LH621i) and drill rigs.
  • Show proficiency in CMMS systems like SAP or Pronto and familiarity with mining safety regulations.
  • Exhibit the ability to lead diverse teams in a high-pressure, safety-critical environment.
  • Be proactive in identifying efficiency and cost reduction opportunities with sound judgment for task prioritization.
  • Possess strong analytical and diagnostic skills for troubleshooting complex equipment issues.
  • Be a clear and effective communicator with a deep commitment to safety and precision in documentation.
