About Role

As a Staff Operations AI Engineer, you will serve as a technical authority responsible for architecting, building, and scaling the intelligent systems that enable Checkr’s AI agents and automation platforms to operate safely, reliably, and efficiently in production. You will work across system integrations, workflow orchestration, data foundations, and AI guardrails, translating strategic business goals into robust technical execution.

This is a hands-on, end-to-end ownership role where you will design resilient integrations, build high-quality automation workflows, and establish engineering standards that materially improve operational efficiency, reliability, and AI performance across the company.

Responsibilities

Architect and own AI agent integration and automation systems across internal and third-party platforms
Build secure, production-grade API integrations using event-driven and webhook-based patterns
Design resilient workflows with strong error handling, retries, and observability
Build and maintain data pipelines, normalized schemas, and structured inputs for AI systems
Develop backend logic and tooling using JavaScript/Python and SQL
Establish engineering standards, documentation, and architectural best practices
Implement AI guardrails, validation rules, and safety mechanisms in production systems
Continuously improve AI output quality through prompt, logic, and workflow refinement

Requirements

7+ years of experience in systems engineering, automation, or integration architecture
Strong expertise in APIs, OAuth/authentication, webhooks, and event-driven systems
Proficiency in JavaScript and/or Python and strong SQL skills
Experience building reliable, observable automation systems at scale
Hands-on experience running LLM-powered systems with guardrails and validation
Strong understanding of JSON, schemas, and data normalization
Experience with platforms like Salesforce, Zendesk, or similar is a plus
Strong system design, communication, and technical leadership skills
