POSITION: Trade Sales Manager Opportunity 

Join a proudly African financial group with a century of history as a Trade Sales Manager at Absa Bank. This role places you at the center of our ambitious growth journey, where you will shape the destiny of our Corporate Banking trade business in Ghana. You will design and execute a dominant market sales strategy specifically for our trade portfolio. Your core mission is maximizing bank revenue by selling sophisticated Trade solutions to targeted commercial clients. Consequently, you will secure new mandates, deepen existing relationships, and protect current business streams. Furthermore, you will build sustainable, long-term client partnerships alongside our Relationship Managers and Directors.

Primary Job Responsibilities

Your focus will be split across three critical performance areas, with the majority dedicated to direct sales achievement.

Sales Performance and Strategy (70% Focus)

  • Exceed agreed annual sales targets and performance objectives.
  • Segment each client and prospect based on clear need analysis and growth potential.
  • Develop specific client action plans with the relationship team, reviewing progress quarterly.
  • Execute targeted client calls with defined objectives to advance the sales cycle.
  • Create compelling Trade Working Capital value propositions for both new and existing exporters.
  • Implement a sector-focused value chain strategy targeting high potential and high growth industries.
  • Drive digitization initiatives, including the rollout of the Pan-African Payment and Settlement system.
  • Build sector expertise and undertake thought leadership programs with partners like AfCFTA.
  • Maintain accurate ‘Trade Maps’ for priority accounts and manage an updated sales pipeline.

Team Collaboration and Development (20% Focus)

  • Support implementation processes to ensure client expectations are met or surpassed.
  • Develop strong links with other internal departments to maximize cross selling opportunities.
  • Represent Absa at selected seminars and conferences to promote trade solutions.
  • Coach and upskill team members on trade products and sales techniques.

Compliance and Risk Management (10% Focus)

  • Ensure all business activity fully complies with the bank’s sanctions and prohibition policy.
  • Complete all mandatory compliance training within the stipulated timelines.

Ideal Candidate Profile

You are a self-starting professional with a demonstrated expertise in trade finance and excellent knowledge of the local market.

Knowledge, Expertise, and Experience

  • Possess experience in credit and operational risk management.
  • Have detailed knowledge of core corporate banking products, with in-depth expertise in Export Trade.
  • Understand client needs and can identify the optimal products to satisfy them.
  • Maintain a strong grasp of Central Bank regulations regarding account opening and AML policies.
  • Appreciate the broader strategic policies of the Absa Group.

Education and Work Experience

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Commerce, Management Studies, or a related field
  • A Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, or Business is preferred.
  • Possess a minimum of three years of work experience in a similar trade sales or corporate banking role.
