POSITION: Heavy Equipment Fitter

Job Description

Underground Mining Alliance Ltd. (UMA), a joint venture between African Underground Mining Services and Rocksure International, is a key contractor for the AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine. We specialize in underground development and production. Currently, UMA seeks qualified and experienced Fitters to join our dynamic team. Primary Duties and Responsibilities

As a Fitter, you will maintain our extensive fleet of underground mining equipment to ensure optimal operational performance.
Perform workshop servicing and attend to equipment breakdowns, both underground and on the surface.
Inspect a range of machinery, including trucks, boggers, drill jumbos, and Normet utility vehicles, to maintain proper function.
Diagnose mechanical and hydraulic faults using technical schematics, manuals, and electronic diagnostic tools.
Adjust equipment for peak performance, then diagnose and replace faulty components.
Repair and rebuild worn or damaged equipment parts and conduct routine daily and scheduled services.
Organize necessary parts for machinery repairs proactively to prevent operational failures.
Execute major component change-outs for items like buckets, engines, and transmissions as required.
Collaborate with fellow mechanics, sharing knowledge to ensure accurate and efficient repairs.
Report damaged equipment and parts requirements directly to your supervisor.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Candidates must possess a minimum of two years of experience, preferably in hard rock underground mechanized mining.
Hold a BSc in Mechanical Engineering or a BSc in Electronics and Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.
MINCOM Certification as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic or Fitter is a significant advantage.
Demonstrate proven work experience as a Diesel or Heavy Equipment Mechanic within a mining environment.
Possess valid Ghanaian driving and operating licenses (C & E Classes) and the ability to drive underground.
Show a strong team ethic, courteous communication skills, and the ability to work effectively under pressure on shift rotation.
Exhibit a proactive attitude toward safety, hazard identification, and possess extensive knowledge of diesel engines and mining equipment.
Have a basic understanding of computer testing technologies and the flexibility to work after hours if necessary.
