Slovakia National Scholarship Programme 2026
The Slovak Republic has announced an extension of its National Scholarship Programme (NSP) for the spring 2026 intake. This program, established in 2005 and funded by the Slovak Ministry of Education, aims to support international students, PhD candidates, university teacher, researchers, and artists by promoting academic and artistic mobility in Slovakia.
Participants in the NSP can experience the rich academic environment of Slovak universities, work with experts, and collaborate on research projects. Artists can also showcase their talents and gain inspiration from Slovakia’s vibrant arts scene. The NSP fosters international cooperation and cultural exchange, while helping participants build important skills and a deeper appreciation for Slovak culture. Funding Package
The NSP provides ample monthly allowances to help with living expenses like accommodation, meals, and everyday expenses.
- Students in a Master’s program (second level of higher education): €620 monthly
- PhD students: €1,025.50 per month
- University teachers, researchers, and artists:
- No PhD and under 4 years of experience – €1,025.50 monthly.
- With a PhD and under 10 years of experience – €1,370 each month.
- Possessing a PhD and over 10 years of experience – €1,470 monthly
Moreover, qualifying students and doctoral candidates can seek a travel grant, varying from €50 to €1,500, based on the distance from their home country to Slovakia. Scholarship recipients with durations exceeding 90 days may also be eligible for reimbursement up to €250 for mandatory medical exams associated with residence permits.
Eligibility Requirements
The NSP is available to residents of every nation (excluding Slovakia). Candidates must fit into one of these categories:
- Students: Currently studying outside Slovakia in Master’s programs or in at least the third year of university; must be admitted for an academic mobility period at a Slovak higher education institution. Length: 1–2 semesters or 1–3 trimesters.
- PhD Students: Registered in PhD programs overseas and welcomed by a Slovak educational or research institution (e.g., Slovak Academy of Sciences) for academic/research visits. Timeframe: 1–10 months.
- University teachers, researchers, and artists: Welcomed for scholarly or creative residencies by qualifying Slovak organizations. Length: 1–10 months.
Note: The NSP does not fund complete degree programs in Slovakia. Applicants who have lived in Slovakia for over 15 months in the past 36 months, or individuals receiving support from other Slovak public scholarship initiatives.

Application Timelines
Applications for the National Scholarship Programme need to be submitted online at www.scholarships.sk in either Slovak or English, accompanied by all necessary supporting documents. The autumn submission deadline is 31 October 2026 at 16:00 CET, relevant for scholarship periods occurring in the summer semester of the current academic year.
Applicants are highly urged to finalize and send in their applications ahead of the deadline, since the online platform may experience significant congestion in the last hours, potentially causing delays or problems with submissions
