Japan Tobe Maki Scholarship 2025

International students currently enrolled in universities and graduate schools across Japan have an exciting opportunity to secure financial assistance from one of the country’s most esteemed educational benefactors. The Tobe Maki Foundation has officially launched its application process for the 2025 Scholarship Program, which is designed to support exceptional, diligent, and financially disadvantaged students pursuing their studies in Japan.

The Tobe Maki Scholarship is a prestigious, merit-based initiative that prioritizes both academic excellence and financial need. It specifically targets undergraduate and graduate students engaged in research within select academic disciplines, fostering an environment where bright minds can thrive. The scholarship not only recognizes outstanding academic performance but also values admirable character traits and the potential for significant intellectual growth.

This program invites self-financed international students holding a “Student” visa to apply for this competitive scholarship opportunity. With only five international scholarships available each year among a total of 60 awards, the selection process is notably rigorous, ensuring that only the most deserving candidates are chosen. This initiative not only offers vital financial support but also opens doors for personal and academic development, empowering students to make meaningful contributions to their fields of study.

Tobe Maki Scholarship Sum & Duration

  • Postgraduate students get ¥70,000 each month (¥840,000 annually).
  • Undergraduate students get ¥60,000 each month (¥720,000 per year).
  • The scholarship spans two years, with the option to extend for up to four years or more for outstanding doctoral candidates.
  • Scholarships are provided directly to recipients, with the initial payment occurring in July 2025, retroactively covering the period from April to July.

Please note that if recipients obtain scholarships from other sources exceeding ¥2 million annually, the Tobe Maki Scholarship amount may be reduced by half. Nonetheless, JASSO scholarships and tuition waivers will not influence the complete advantage.
