Job Title: Safeguarding Manager

The Opportunity

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Safeguarding Manager to lead our commitment to safety and ethics. Based in Accra, this role is pivotal in upholding our duty of care to program participants, staff, and associates. You will create a safe environment, ensure adherence to the highest ethical standards, and protect everyone connected to our work from harassment, exploitation, and abuse.

Purpose of the Role

Reporting to senior management, you will lead the Safeguarding unit and its strategy. You will act as the primary point for safeguarding concerns, manage investigations, build organizational capacity, and ensure BGSL meets all donor and international safeguarding obligations. This role requires a balance of strategic leadership, practical implementation, and sensitive case management.

Key Responsibilities

You will oversee the complete safeguarding lifecycle within the organization:

First, you will lead the annual strategic planning and budgeting for the Safeguarding unit, monitoring implementation and expenditures.
You will implement BRAC’s core safeguarding policies, training staff, partners, and service providers, and building a network of internal Safeguarding Champions.
A primary duty involves acting as the confidential reporting avenue for concerns, providing survivor-centered support, and ensuring victim safety.
Furthermore, you will conduct organizational safeguarding risk assessments and integrate protective measures into all BGSL activities.
You will also lead complex case management of violations, ensuring timely reporting to donors and maintaining meticulous investigation records.
Additionally, you will develop staff capacity for sensitive investigations and maintain functional, community-friendly reporting mechanisms.
You will map local support services for survivors across all operational regions and maintain the online case management system.
Finally, you will prepare detailed reports, represent BGSL externally, supervise your unit, and provide strategic safeguarding input during program design.

Required Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate is a seasoned professional with deep technical safeguarding knowledge:

A minimum of seven years of professional experience, with at least three years specifically in safeguarding, protection, gender, or GBV.
A Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Gender Studies, Development Studies, International Development, or a related discipline.
Proven experience implementing safeguarding policies and conducting sensitive, complex investigations.
Excellent technical knowledge of international safeguarding standards and best practices.
Strong facilitation, training, and presentation skills for diverse audiences.
Exceptional relationship management, communication, and confidentiality management abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint for reporting and analysis.
A professional certification in Safeguarding Case Management or SEAH investigations is a strong advantage.
