Students seeking an enriching academic journey abroad now have the opportunity to apply for scholarships aimed at research placements at prestigious universities in Taiwan. This initiative is generously sponsored by Austria’s Federal Ministry of Education, Science, and Research (BMBWF) and is designed to support diploma and master’s students who are eager to advance their education in a variety of fields, including Natural Sciences, Technical Sciences, Health Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, and Arts.

The program is managed by OeAD-GmbH, Austria’s Agency for Education and Internationalisation, which ensures a streamlined and efficient application process for eligible students. This initiative not only provides financial support but also fosters international collaboration and knowledge exchange, allowing students to immerse themselves in a diverse academic environment while contributing to ongoing research projects in Taiwan. By participating in this scholarship program, students can expand their academic horizons, gain invaluable experience, and build networks that may enhance their future careers.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Available to Austrian and EU citizens registered at a public university, private university, or university of applied sciences in Austria.
  • Candidates must have finished at least one semester of the second stage of their diploma program or one semester of a master’s program prior to applying.
  • Students who are presently sitting for exams (at least 5 ECTS credits in the final semester) or engaging in research are also qualified.
  • There is no age restriction, yet the scholarship is designed for early-career researchers seeking to further their academic journeys.
  • The scholarship is available for one-time use per applicant and cannot be prolonged.

Approved Host Institutions in Taiwan 

The scholarship aids research and academic visits at higher education establishments in Taiwan, such as universities, research centers, libraries, museums, and archives. Nevertheless, candidates must obtain a written assurance of oversight from the hosting institution.

Required Documents 

To apply, applicants need to provide the following:

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) written in English.
  • Research or study proposal (2-5 pages in English) explaining the rationale for selecting Taiwan and outlining academic goals.
  • Two letters of recommendation from university professors (dated, signed, stamped, and no older than six months).
  • Verification of oversight from the Taiwanese host organization.
  • Authorized academic records and degrees (in English).
  • Extra examples of artistic work (if applying in applicable areas such as architecture, sculpture, painting, etc.).

  • A monthly payment of €1,800 for a duration of up to four months.
  • Travel reimbursement of up to €1,200.
