Malaysia Eases Professional Visit Pass Process: Less Documentation & Quick Approval

Malaysia has streamlined the application procedure for Professional Visit Passes (PVPs), cutting the number of documents needed from 13 to 6. With effect from August 16, 2024, this modification seeks to facilitate foreign professionals’ work or training in Malaysia by streamlining the process.

Malaysia has simplified the Professional Visit Pass (PVP) application process to improve the expatriate experience. The goal of the activity is to uphold national security regulations while enhancing consumer happiness.

Overview: Professional Visit Pass (PVP)

For foreign professionals who possess recognized qualifications or specific talents, a Professional Visit Pass (PVP) is a temporary employment permit. It enables them to:

  • Come to Malaysia and work for an international company as a service provider or participate in hands-on training with a Malaysian enterprise.
  • Remain in the nation for a maximum of twelve months.

Note: PVP holders are not qualified to submit a Dependency Pass application.

Major Modifications to the PVP Application Procedure

The number of general documents needed for each Professional Visit Pass application has been lowered from 13 to 6 as of August 16, 2024. The procedure for foreign professionals looking to enter Malaysia temporarily has been streamlined by this modification.

List of Documents Needed for PVP Applications

For foreign professionals seeking temporary entrance into Malaysia, the PVP application process is now quicker and easier with just six mandatory documents required.

  • Passport copy: Complete at least six pages blank.
  • Application Letter from Sponsor: An official letter from the organization providing the sponsorship.
  • Bonds: Individual bonds for every nationality (except for Bangladeshi and Chinese).
  • Security Bond exclusively for applicants who are Chinese or Bangladeshi.
  • Proof of employment or project agreement in the form of a contract or letter of award (LOA).
  • Memorandum of Understanding (MoU): If relevant, it is an agreement between the employer and the worker.

Supplementary Records: If applicable, including:

  • To install, maintain, or fix machinery.
  • For outside specialists in mining operations.
  • For testers using airplane simulators.
  • For hotels that handle applications from students undergoing practical training.

Documents No Longer Required

To streamline the application process for applicants and lessen administrative load, several documents were deleted from the PVP application criteria.

  • Offer Letter
  • Bank Guarantee
  • Job Description
  • Acceptance Letter
  • Updated Resume
  • Academic Certificates
  • Working Schedule

Process to Apply for the Professional Visit Pass (PVP)

  • Get the necessary paperwork ready: Gather the six required documents: a copy of your passport, the letter of application from your sponsor, bonds, the contract or Letter of Award (LOA), the Memorandum of Understanding (if applicable), and any additional supporting documentation that may be required.
  • Apply: As directed by your sponsor, submit the entire set of paperwork to the Malaysian Immigration Department or via the official web portal.
  • Wait for Approval: The application will be examined by the Malaysian Immigration Department. To prevent delays, make sure all documentation is accurate and comprehensive.
  • Acquire the PVP: Upon approval, you will receive the Professional Visit Pass, which will grant you entry and temporary employment in Malaysia for a maximum of 12 months.
  • Observe the Rules: Adhere to all rules and regulations established by the PVP; otherwise, you risk fines or having your privileges revoked.

Effects of the Recent Adjustments

It is anticipated that the PVP application process will run more quickly and effectively with fewer documentation requirements. As a result, Malaysia will draw in more highly qualified foreign workers, which will help several sectors like engineering, mining, hospitality, and aviation.

By streamlining these processes, Malaysia hopes to draw in more international talent and provide expatriates with a seamless experience without sacrificing national security.
