Imperial College London Simon Maddison Scholarship

Study in UK | Imperial College London Simon Maddison Scholarship 2026

Students who aspire to study at one of the world’s most selective engineering universities often face financial barriers that limit their options. The Simon Maddison Scholarship in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Imperial College London gives motivated students a powerful chance to overcome these obstacles and gain access to a top-ranked engineering education.

This award supports talented undergraduates from low-income households and provides generous financial assistance across all four years of their degree. With a yearly bursary of £15,008, the scholarship ranks among the most valuable funding opportunities available to Home fee students entering Imperial’s Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

The guide below explains what the scholarship offers, who qualifies, how to apply, and the important dates you must follow.

What the Scholarship Provides

The Simon Maddison Scholarship gives more than recognition. It offers meaningful financial support that can reshape a student’s entire university experience. Recipients receive:

A yearly bursary of £15,008 for up to four years
Students may use this support in two ways:

  • As a maintenance grant for everyday living costs
  • Or partly toward tuition fees, with the remaining amount given as a maintenance grant

The award covers the full duration of a four-year undergraduate degree, except for repeated study. It is reserved for students who begin their programs in the 2026-2027 academic year. This makes it a significant opportunity for academically strong students who want to join Imperial but do not have the financial means to do so.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the Simon Maddison Scholarship, applicants must meet all requirements by 29 May 2026. Candidates must:

  • Hold an offer from any undergraduate program in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • Have Home fee status
  • Show financial need through a full means test carried out by Student Finance England or an equivalent authority
  • Come from a household with an income below £40,000, verified by SFE
  • Apply as a new student, since continuing students cannot receive this award

The scholarship focuses on students with strong academic potential who want to pursue engineering but face significant financial barriers.

How to Apply

The application process remains simple and does not require a separate scholarship form. Instead, candidates follow two essential steps.

Step 1: Complete Student Finance and Means Testing

Applicants must complete their Student Finance England application well in advance. SFE may take several weeks to review financial information, so early submission ensures timely verification. Students must:

  • Complete the means test
  • Confirm household income below £40,000
  • Give consent for SFE to share financial details with Imperial

Imperial must receive all verified information by 29 May 2026 at 11:59 pm UK time.

Step 2: Apply Through UCAS and Secure an Offer

Applicants must submit their UCAS application and hold at least a conditional offer from the Department of EEE. The department reviews all applicants based on predicted grades and overall academic strength. Final approval comes from the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering.
