POSITION: Accountant

The Centre for Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (C-WASH) invites dedicated accounting professionals to join our team as a Volunteer Accountant. The Centre for Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (C-WASH) stands as a reputable local non governmental organization committed to expanding access to safe and sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene services. We focus primarily on households and institutions, particularly schools and healthcare facilities that serve underserved populations. Our Head Office operates opposite the Adenta–Frafraha Foster Home in Accra, while our Field Office is based in Bolgatanga, the capital of the Upper East Region. The Opportunity Awaits You

We currently seek a self motivated Volunteer Accountant to support our financial operations. This position offers flexibility, allowing you to work on either a part time or full time basis depending on your availability and preference. You will play a critical role in maintaining financial integrity, ensuring donor accountability, and supporting our mission to deliver essential services to those who need them most.

Your Core Responsibilities

  • Organise financial records systematically and prepare required books of account on a monthly, quarterly, semi annual, or annual basis through meticulous bookkeeping.
  • Prepare quarterly, semi annual, and annual financial reports for sharing with donors, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and timeliness.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory payment requirements including PAYE and SSNIT contributions, safeguarding the organization’s legal standing.
  • Plan and coordinate the conduct of annual audits, working closely with external auditors to ensure smooth and successful audit processes.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Executive Director or Project Manager as needed to support organizational objectives.
  • Maintain accurate financial documentation and filing systems for easy retrieval and reference.
  • Support budget preparation and monitoring activities to ensure efficient resource utilization.
  • Collaborate with program teams to provide financial insights that inform decision making and project implementation.

What We Are Looking For

To succeed in this role, you must bring a combination of financial expertise and personal commitment. Specifically, we require:

  • Educational Qualification: Diploma, HND, B-TECH, or BSc in Accounting from a recognized institution.
  • Experience: At least one year of relevant accounting experience, demonstrating practical knowledge of financial management principles.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel for financial analysis and reporting.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to financial record keeping and accuracy in all calculations.
  • Integrity and Ethics: Strong commitment to transparency, accountability, and ethical financial practices.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to prepare clear financial reports and communicate effectively with donors and stakeholders.
  • Self Motivation: Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision while meeting deadlines consistently.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work part time or full time as required by organizational needs.
  • Commitment to Mission: Genuine interest in contributing to water, sanitation, and hygiene initiatives that improve public health.

Duty Station

This position is based at our Field Office in Bolgatanga, the capital of the Upper East Region. Candidates should either reside in Bolgatanga or demonstrate willingness to relocate.
