Job Duties
- Lead bridge safety inspection teams in compliance with National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS).
- Conduct structural inspections for bridges, culverts, tunnels, and ancillary highway structures.
- Plan and coordinate inspection projects including traffic control and access equipment management.
- Act as the primary point of contact with clients and agency representatives during inspections.
- Prepare and review bridge inspection reports ensuring technical accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to junior inspectors and engineering staff.
- Coordinate project activities with consultants, vendors, and agency stakeholders.
- Support proposal preparation, project scoping, and client engagement activities.
- Contribute to quality assurance and quality control initiatives.
- Participate in business development and professional networking efforts.
- Maintain current knowledge of bridge inspection standards, regulations, and technologies.
- Travel regularly to project locations and perform field inspections under varying environmental conditions.
- Ensure compliance with safety requirements including work at heights, over water, and within confined spaces.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an ABET-accredited institution in Civil Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, or Civil Engineering Technology with structural emphasis.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT), Professional Engineer (PE), or equivalent bridge inspection experience.
- Completion of required National Highway Institute (NHI) bridge inspection certifications.
- Strong understanding of National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) and AASHTO bridge evaluation frameworks.
- Experience performing structural condition assessments and inspection reporting.
- Ability to lead technical teams and coordinate multidisciplinary project delivery.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to pass applicable background checks.
- Ability to travel extensively and perform field-based inspection activities.
- Knowledge of bridge analysis, design, and inspection software tools.
- Experience using Microsoft Office, Bluebeam Revu, MicroStation, AASHTOWareBrR, and web-based reporting systems.
- Familiarity with bridge inspection techniques and safety procedures.
