POSITION: Senior Purchasing Officer

Underground Mining Alliance Akyem (UMAA) is seeking a qualified and experienced Senior Purchasing Officer to join our team in Obuasi. Your Mission: Drive Procurement Excellence

You will manage and coordinate the procurement of goods, services, and equipment required to support underground mining operations. Your focus will remain on compliance, timely supply, cost optimization, and strong supplier relationship management. Additionally, you will supervise expediting staff and provide technical guidance to ensure efficient procurement processes.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Your role spans the entire procurement lifecycle, from requisition to contract management. Here is what you will tackle:

Procurement Management

You will manage the end to end procurement process for assigned categories, including requisition review, sourcing, tendering, evaluation, negotiation, and contracting.
Participating in supplier audits, risk assessments, and compliance reviews keeps our supply chain secure and reliable.

Process Improvement & Record Keeping

Contributing to continuous improvement in procurement practices and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) utilization helps us work smarter.
Maintaining accurate procurement records and reports ensures audit readiness and regulatory compliance.

Team Supervision & Development

Supervising, coaching, and developing Expediting and other support staff builds a stronger, more capable team.
Monitoring vendor performance and resolving delivery, quality, or service issues keeps operations running smoothly.

Collaboration & Market Analysis

Liaising closely with warehouse, maintenance, engineering, and underground operations teams helps you understand material requirements before gaps emerge.
Conducting market analysis to identify cost saving opportunities and supply risks positions us for smarter spending.

Supplier Management & Compliance

Sourcing and evaluating new suppliers focuses on safety, reliability, and value. You will not compromise on quality.
Developing and maintaining strong supplier relationships ensures timely delivery, quality, and cost competitiveness.
Reviewing and authorizing purchase orders within delegated limits keeps procurement moving without bottlenecks.
Ensuring all purchasing activities comply with company policies, legal standards, and ethical guidelines protects our integrity.

What You Bring to the Role

We are looking for a candidate with the right experience, technical knowledge, and personal attributes. Here is what you need:

Experience

A minimum of 5 to 7 years of procurement experience, with at least 3 years in a mining, heavy industry, or related environment.
Strong knowledge of mining equipment, spare parts, consumables, and service procurement.
Proven experience in supplier negotiations, contract management, and procurement planning.
Demonstrated leadership experience in supervising or mentoring staff.
Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Pronto, or similar in a procurement environment.
Ability to drive an SUV.
