POSITION: Survey Assistant

Do you have a sharp eye for detail and a passion for precision? Are you ready to apply your geodetic engineering skills in one of the most dynamic environments on earth? AngloGold Ashanti is looking for a Survey Assistant to join our team in Obuasi. This is your opportunity to contribute to real world mining operations while building a career with a global industry leader.

This is not a routine office job. You will work underground and on site, providing the critical controls and guidance that shape mine planning and design. Your surveys will inform quarterly plans and drive daily progress. If you are ready for responsibility and excited by the challenges of underground mining, this role fits you perfectly.

Key Responsibilities

You will assist surveyors in delivering accurate measurements and layouts. More importantly, you will prioritize safety at every step. You will assess risks, report incidents, and ensure every task meets our strict environmental and operational standards.

Your day to day accountabilities will include:

  • Assessing Risks Before Every Task: You will evaluate potential hazards before starting any job. You will ensure controls are in place and followed throughout execution.
  • Reporting and Correcting Incidents: If something goes wrong, you will report it immediately. You will also ensure corrective actions happen on time and prevent recurrence.
  • Protecting the Environment: You will comply with all AGAG Environmental Management requirements. You will take proactive steps to prevent pollution and correct any deviations you observe.
  • Following Operating Procedures: You will adhere strictly to established procedures and environmental rules. You will also suggest improvements whenever you spot an opportunity.
  • Commissioning and Handover: You will assist with the commissioning of instrumentation and control systems. You will ensure everything meets AGAG’s Quality Assurance and Quality Control standards.
  • Maintaining Network Integrity: You will help keep the Process Control Network safe and secure. You will follow established procedures if any incident occurs.
  • Demonstrating Safety Leadership: You will actively contribute to a strong safety culture. You will promote Safety, Health, Environment, and Sustainable Development within your team.
  • Managing Your Own Development: You will take charge of your professional growth. You will pursue learning opportunities that help you deliver better results.
  • Building Stakeholder Relationships: You will develop and maintain constructive relationships with colleagues and partners. You will collaborate effectively to deliver the annual plan.
  • Contributing to Continuous Improvement: You will embrace a culture of accountability. You will always look for ways to improve processes and outcomes.

Qualification and Experience

You bring technical expertise and a commitment to safety. Also, you understand that every measurement matters and every decision impacts the operation. You thrive in underground environments and enjoy the hands on nature of mining survey work.

To succeed in this role, you will bring:

  • Relevant Education: A BSc in Geodetic Engineering or Geomatic Engineering. Your degree gives you the theoretical foundation for precise survey work.
  • Proven Experience: At least two years of proven experience in mine surveying. Ideally, you have spent at least one of those years in an underground mining environment.
  • Survey Management Skills: You have experience managing survey functions and coordinating survey activities.
  • Mining Operations Knowledge: You understand the mining operations value chain. You know how your work fits into the bigger picture.
  • Data Interpretation Ability: You can interpret complex data and make sound tactical decisions based on your analysis.
  • Commercial Acumen: You understand the business side of mining. You consider commercial implications in your daily work.
  • Software Proficiency: You are familiar with survey software and advanced safety applications. You can identify safety risks and ensure appropriate focus and resources address them.
