Position Overview
The Social Worker will work directly with street children and their families. You will manage cases, conduct outreach activities, strengthen family bonds, and support educational and vocational transitions. Your efforts will directly impact the lives of vulnerable children and youth.
Key Responsibilities
Case Management
- Conduct comprehensive family and client assessments, including Social Investigation Reports, to evaluate conditions, strengths, and areas requiring support.
- Design and implement interventions aligned with organizational guidelines while considering risk levels and specific needs.
- Facilitate the reintegration and reunification of children with their families, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Participate in case conferences and contribute to developing care plans for children and families.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and reports documenting client progress and conditions.
Street Work and Outreach
- Conduct daily visits to street hotspots to engage with children and families, identifying those in need and referring them to the Resource Center.
- Monitor and track the progress of children enrolled in school or apprenticeship programs while they remain on the street.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders in street communities.
- Plan, prepare, and conduct workshops for children and youth on the street as approved by your coordinator.
- Follow up on cases identified during street outreach or referred by other branches and social workers.
Family Strengthening and Reintegration
- Facilitate the safe transition of children from street situations back to their family environments.
- Prepare families for reunification and provide post-reintegration follow-up through regular home visits.
- Strengthen family functioning, enabling caregivers to act as primary agents of care and socialization.
Education and Youth Transitions
- Support children’s transition into formal education systems and collaborate with schools to ensure learning needs receive proper attention.
- Engage street-connected youth in career development activities and prepare them for apprenticeship and TVET pathways through needs-based interventions.
Monitoring and Documentation
- Maintain accurate and timely case records in line with organizational M&E and child safeguarding standards.
- Ensure quality data entry and documentation to support program monitoring, learning, and reporting.
- Use digital tools and databases to support effective case management and program implementation.
Administrative Duties
- Submit monthly expense reports and operational requests by agreed deadlines.
- Regularly update and maintain case follow-ups in the Case Management Tool WebApp.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum Diploma or First Degree in Social Work, Sociology, Integrated Development Studies, Community Development, or a related field
- At least three years of relevant experience working with children, youth, and families, preferably in street-connected or community-based contexts.
- Demonstrated experience in casework and child-centered approaches.
- Strong understanding of diverse cultural and socio-economic contexts.
Technical and Professional Skills
- Strong case management and assessment capabilities.
- Proficiency in accurate data entry, documentation, and basic M&E processes.
- Working knowledge of database systems and digital tools is an advantage.
- Excellent relationship-building skills with children, youth, families, and community stakeholders
- Strong facilitation skills for group and community sessions.
- Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
- Sound judgment, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Good working knowledge of MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to use digital technology to support program delivery and community engagement.
Additional Requirements
- Fluency in English and Twi is essential. Knowledge of Hausa or other Ghanaian languages provides an advantage.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while functioning effectively within a team.
- Willingness to spend extensive time in communities and field-based settings.
- Commitment to child safeguarding, ethical practice, and organizational values.
