Job Title: Vice-Chancellor

Position

The Council of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) invites applications from distinguished, internationally recognized scholars for the position of Vice-Chancellor. This esteemed leadership role became vacant on September 24, 2025. Consequently, we seek an exceptional academic leader with proven administrative expertise, unimpeachable integrity, and a compelling vision to guide Ghana’s premier university into its next era of excellence.

The Position and Core Functions

The Vice-Chancellor serves as the Chief Executive and Academic Head of the University, operating under the direction of the University Council. Your primary responsibilities will encompass the following:

Academic and Administrative Leadership: You will serve as both the Academic and Administrative Head of the University. Furthermore, you act as the Chief Disciplinary Officer, ensuring the maintenance of good order, efficiency, and adherence to statutory provisions across all university operations.
Strategic Governance and Representation: You are accountable to the University Council for promoting institutional excellence and fostering a conducive environment for teaching, research, and innovation. Additionally, you will represent the University at national and international forums, projecting its image and advancing its strategic interests.
Statutory Compliance: Your functions are prescribed by the statutes of the University of Cape Coast, requiring strict adherence to established governance frameworks and regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications and Personal Attributes

The Vice-Chancellor must satisfy the following stringent criteria:

Hold the rank of Professor and be recognized as an internationally acclaimed scholar with a distinguished record of research, publication, and academic contribution.
Demonstrate impeccable personal stature and integrity, accompanied by exemplary, proven leadership capabilities.
Possess the demonstrated capacity to marshal financial, human, and material resources to effectively execute the University’s mission and strategic vision.
Must be able to serve a full four-year term before attaining the compulsory retirement age of sixty.
Exhibit maturity, sound judgment, and a proven track record of successful university management at the highest level.
Be visionary and business-oriented, with the demonstrated ability to establish meaningful, mutually beneficial partnerships between the University and industry.
Demonstrate the capacity to foster and promote strong internal and external relations across all stakeholder groups.
Possess the ability to effectively project the University’s image both domestically and on the international stage.
Provide evidence of strong visionary leadership and a commitment to driving innovation within a complex academic environment.

Tenure of Office

The Vice-Chancellor shall hold office for an initial term of four years.

The appointment may be renewed for a further term of up to three years, provided this does not extend beyond the statutory retiring age of sixty.

Conditions of Service

The University offers a highly attractive remuneration package. Specific terms and conditions of service will be detailed in the formal instrument of appointment issued to the successful candidate.

Location: This executive position is based at the University’s main campus in Cape Coast.
