The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) invites students and recent graduates worldwide to apply for its 2027 Internship Programme. This paid opportunity offers a unique chance to work at WIPO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, contributing to global innovation, creativity, and intellectual property initiatives.

What the Internship Covers

Selected interns receive comprehensive financial support. The programme offers a monthly stipend of CHF 1,645 for Category I interns and CHF 2,170 for Category II interns. Additionally, interns receive medical and professional accident insurance, visa assistance for Switzerland, and up to CHF 1,500 travel reimbursement for eligible candidates from developing, least developed, and transition countries. Paid annual leave of 2.5 days per month further enhances this comprehensive package.

Internship Categories and Duration

WIPO offers two internship categories based on academic level:

  • Category I: Available to students in their third or fourth year of a bachelor’s degree, individuals who obtained their first-level degree within the last two years, or those pursuing an advanced degree without completed coursework. Duration ranges from 2 to 6 months.
  • Category II: Open to those who have completed their advanced degree coursework but not the final thesis, or individuals who obtained their advanced degree within the last two years. This category offers 2 to 12 month placements.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must be international students or recent graduates, demonstrate professional proficiency in English and/or French, and show interest in innovation, intellectual property, or international development. Former WIPO interns are not eligible to apply again.

Prepare your updated CV, a detailed motivation letter, educational transcripts, proof of enrollment or degree certificate, and language proficiency information where applicable. The motivation letter carries particular weight, so be specific about your preferred area of work and connect your experience to WIPO’s mission.
