WE HAVE STARTED TEXTBOOKS DISTRIBUTION TO SCHOOLS – DEP EDUCATION MINISTER
According to the Deputy Minister of Education, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, the distribution of Textbooks to the various basic schools in Ghana has currently commenced. This announcement was given by him after he paid a visit to the Buck Press in Accra on Friday, 22nd of July, 2022.
The Buck Press Limited is one of the printing companies that the Government has made an agreement with to print Textbooks, specifically science Textbooks for basic schools in the country. So far, the books distributed to the various schools in the Eastern, Ashanti, and Bono Regions are 123,000. They are, however, still processing additional 173,827 Textbooks to be distributed to the regions.
The Deputy Minister of Education’s main motive for going was to access the progress of the printing of the Textbooks. Upon his visit, Reverend Fordjour took a keen look and monitored the processes of printing. He as well examined some of the science Textbooks that they had finished printing. It was after this tour, that he had an interaction with the staff of the Press.
ADDITIONAL STATEMENT FROM THE DEPUTY MINISTER
Furthermore, the Deputy Minister of Education stated that all regions and districts will have their books distributed to them within a few weeks. Nonetheless, this will only be possible If all the printers for printing out these Textbooks comply with the timeliness that has been assigned to them.
However, he further added they the Government, together with the Ministry of Education is committed to ensuring that all Textbooks are ready. This is to help make teaching and learning very effective.
Considering the cost of printing the Textbooks, Reverend Fordjour stated that the Education Ministry has done its best to ensure prudent negotiations with the Press. In lieu of this, they save more than 50% of the estimated printing cost. In explaining this, he said that this 50% reduction came as a result of the government’s decision. That is, to print the Textbooks locally. Doing so will go a long way to boost the industry’s operation and enhance the Gross Domestic Product of the country.
IN CONCLUSION
Reverend Fordjour again emphasized President Akuffo-Addo’s policy to ensure improvement in education. As such, it is prudent that the Textbooks be made readily available for all the various basic schools in the country. It is therefore evident that the distribution of the Textbooks is urgently ongoing.
