WACA Student Scholars Program 2026 in USA (Fully Funded)
The World Affairs Councils of America (WACA) invites undergraduate students to apply for its 2026 Student Scholars Program. This initiative offers 25 students from WACA Council communities the opportunity to attend the National Conference at no cost, with travel, accommodation, and a special Scholar Day experience in Washington, DC fully supported. The program provides first-hand exposure to careers in diplomacy, global policy, and international relations.
What the Program Offers
Selected scholars receive comprehensive support and unique experiences:
- Complimentary attendance at the WACA National Conference
- $1,250 travel and lodging support provided to the nominating Council
- Scholar Day in Washington, DC with visits to think tanks, embassies, and international organisations
- Networking opportunities with professionals and peers in international affairs
- Career exploration through direct exposure to the world affairs community
The program enables students to engage with institutions shaping global policy while building professional connections that can guide their academic and career paths.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify, students must meet specific criteria:
- Be an undergraduate student at least 18 years old
- Attend a college or university within a WACA Council community
- Be nominated by their local WACA Council
Students cannot apply directly to WACA. The process begins at the local level, with each Council selecting one nominee. High school students, graduate students, and those in the Greater Washington DC area are not eligible.
How the Application Process Works
- Local Council Selection: Contact your local WACA Council to express interest and learn about its nomination process. Each Council selects a single nominee, so early engagement is essential.
- National Application: Once nominated, the student must complete the national application, which includes a resume, a 1-2 page Letter of Intent explaining your interest in world affairs and a professor’s letter of recommendation (coordinated through the Council)
Critical Deadline: The application deadline for the 2026 WACA Student Scholars Program is September 25, 2026. Results will be announced within two weeks after the deadline.
Why Apply
This program offers exceptional value for undergraduate students exploring international careers. The combination of conference participation, DC institutional visits, and professional networking provides a unique window into global affairs that classroom learning alone cannot match. For those passionate about diplomacy, policy, or global development, this is an opportunity to map your future in world affairs.
