    Global Programme Coordinator at Vision Aid Overseas

    Job Description

    • Location: Accra, Ghana. Some flexibility with regards to working remotely but sometime in the office will be required.
    • Reports To: Director of Programmes
    • Line Reports: Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning Lead.
    • Travel Requirements: Some international travel will be required
    • Key relationships: Country Directors, Global MEAL Lead, Global Eye Health Lead, Volunteer Coordinator, Fundraising team, Programme Finance Manager
    • Salary and Benefits: GHS 210,000 Gross per annum
    • Contract Type: Full Time, Permanent

    Job Purpose

    The purpose of this role is to support the Director of Programmes to manage the global VAO programme portfolio, delivering on our commitments to improve access to eye care in the countries where we work. The Global Programme Coordinator will provide exceptional organisational support by acting as a key point of contact for our grant funding donors, developing work plans and managing deadlines.

    Functions / Key Responsibilities

    Donor management, reporting and communications

    • Manage key donor relationships (institutions, trusts, and foundations), including managing all donor reporting.
    • Work with Country Directors and key partners to ensure all are aware of donor requirements and can comply with donor planning/reporting processes to ensure timely and robust reporting.
    • Working with the Global MEAL Lead, the Global Eye Health Lead and Country Directors, you will help to compile quarterly and annual reports for internal review, and to feed into internal communications and our annual report.
    • Work with the communications team and in-country staff to generate excellent communications materials that demonstrate the impact of our work.

    Programme support

    • Provide operational support to the country programmes to help them deliver their programmes in a way that achieves the greatest impact.
    • Be a point of contact for operational issues relating to the programmes.
      Provide support to ad-hoc projects as required.

    Programme Development

    Work with the Director of Programmes, Country Directors, and the fundraising team to develop new funding proposals.

    Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning

    • Oversee implementation of the VAO MEAL framework.
    • Act as the line manager for the Global MEAL Lead, providing guidance and support where needed.
    • Produce monthly and quarterly reports that are shared with the Senior Management Team and the Board.

    Required Skills or Experience

    The Person

    • The successful candidate will be a team player with excellent knowledge of the international development sector, ideally in a health or education setting with knowledge of the UK charity sector and funding environment.
    • Educated to minimum bachelor’s degree level in a relevant field, preferably in international development, Public Health or similar with at least 3 years’ experience working in the international development sector, ideally with experience working with institutional donors, in particular, USAID and/or the FCDO.
    • You will have excellent organisational skills, with an ability to prioritise and manage time effectively, excellent oral and written English and demonstrable experience of donor reporting, preferably with institutional donors.
    • You must have excellent time management & ability to multi-task, work independently and self-motivate, good IT skills (extensive knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and experience working remotely through email, skype/zoom, MS Teams), an understanding of monitoring and evaluation and project cycle management, and experience in proposal writing and budgeting.
    • You will be an excellent communicator in an international setting, be a proactive problem-solver and be sympathetic to Vision Aid Overseas’ charitable ethos.
    • The successful candidate must have the legal right to live and work in Ghana indefinitely.

    Role-specific knowledge and skills essential

    • Knowledge of the international development sector, ideally in a health or education setting.

    • Extensive knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and experience working remotely through email, skype/zoom, and MS Teams.
    • Demonstrable understanding of monitoring and evaluation, and project cycle management.
    • Excellent communication skills, and cross-cultural sensitivity.
      Proven ability to develop effective, collaborative partnerships within, and beyond, an organisation.
    • Ability to work on own initiative to deadlines and within a small, integrated team.
    • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, internally and externally, including with international partners.
    • Sympathetic to Vision Aid Overseas’ charitable ethos.
    • Experience in proposal writing and budgeting

    Desirable:

    • Understanding visual impairment and eye health issues including health systems strengthening as an approach.
    • Understanding of issues affecting barriers to uptake of eye care including poverty and gender.
    • Skilled in developing and delivering presentations.
    • An understanding of funding structures and opportunities within the NGO sector

    Qualifications and experience

    Education (Essential):

    Educated to minimum bachelor’s degree level in a relevant field, preferably in international development, Public Health or similar.

    Experience (Essential):

    • At least 3 years of experience working in the international development sector.
    • A good understanding of current priorities, challenges and issues within the health sector
    • Proven ability to develop and manage good stakeholder relationships with a broad range of stakeholders
    • Proven experience in report writing to a high standard
    • Results-oriented focus – proven experience in working with, and delivering metrics and targets

    Experience (Desirable):

    • Proven experience working with institutional donors, in particular USAID and/or the FCDO.
    • Experience of working in a UK based charity.

    Personal attributes and qualities:

    • Proactive in seeking to enhance processes and identifying emerging risks
    • Able to spot inefficiencies in systems and suggest or implement improvements
    • Responds quickly to solve problems, seeking input from relevant internal stakeholders
    • Self-reflective and committed

    Language Requirements: Fluency in spoken and written English
