The U.S. Mission in Vietnam is happy to announce the Fulbright Vietnamese Student Scholarship Program for the academic year 2024-2025. The Fulbright Program was started in 1946 and is paid for by the U.S. government. Its goal is to promote mutual understanding through academic and cultural exchange.
Young Vietnamese professionals seeking Master’s degrees at U.S. universities can apply for Fulbright Vietnamese Student Program scholarships. Merit-based and competitive. 20 full-funded scholarships are awarded annually. The Program has accepted almost 600 Vietnamese students since 1992.
What does the Scholarship give?
Successful applicants will get a full scholarship that pays for tuition, fees, a monthly stipend, round-trip airfare to the U.S., and health insurance so they can get a Master’s degree starting in 2024-2025. The Fulbright Program will also help candidates who are chosen when they apply to universities in the United States.
Who can try it out?
People who meet the following requirements are welcome to enter:
- Be a Vietnamese citizen (no dual citizenship and reside in Vietnam throughout the application & selection process)
- Have at least a bachelor’s degree.
- Have worked for at least two years after graduating by the time you are applying
- Have at least a 79 on the TOEFL iBT, 6.5 on the IELTS, 58 on the PTE-Academic, or 105 on Duolingo.

Reasons you can’t get in
The Fulbright Vietnamese Student Program is not open to any of the following people:
- Candidates who have already been awarded a grant from the Fulbright Student Program.
- Candidates who live or go to school in the United States and other countries.
- Candidates who have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from a U.S. college or university within the last three years.
- People who work for the U.S. People who work for the U.S. Mission in Vietnam. Those who work for the U.S. Department of State and their immediate family members are not eligible for grants while they are working there and for a year after they leave.
- Candidates who have gotten a government scholarship to study abroad for graduate school in the last five years or who have accepted a fully-funded scholarship to study abroad for graduate school.

To join the Program, please follow these steps:
Step 1: Before you start your application, download the Application Guidelines and Application Checklist and read them carefully.
Step 2: Fill out the form online at https://apply.iie.org/ffsp2024/
By the deadline, all parts of the online application must be sent in, including:
- Two papers (study objectives and personal statement)
- Three recommendation letters
- Record of grades and degree (for each higher educational institution you list in your application)
- Report on test scores is needed
- Curriculum vitae

CRITERIA FOR CHOOSING
Competition is based on academic and professional skills and has nothing to do with race, color, national origin, sex, age, religion, location, socioeconomic status, disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity. People who haven’t lived in the United States recently or for a long time get priority. A good candidate is someone who can:
- Show that their study goals are clear and detailed and that there is a clear link between their study goals and their future goals through a compelling set of essays.
- Have a lot of work experience in the field they want to study and know everything there is to know about it.
- Show leadership potential through academic, extracurricular, community, and professional development activities, as well as through personal qualities.
- Show that you care about Vietnam and have the potential to make a difference when you go back.
- Help the people of the United States and Vietnam understand each other better through educational and cultural exchanges.
- Be willing to share Vietnam’s culture with the world.
- Have done well in school and can speak and write English well.
