A follow up has been done by newsnowgh.com to establish the truth in media reports of dead bodies found on the streets of Kumasi.
Ashanti Regional Police PRO ASP Godwin Ahianyo has addressed the media in the local dialect to debunk the claim. He stated that the said media report is false and have no basis.
In a press address, he disclosed “It can be seen that Ghanaweb and myjoyonoine have reported that 5 or 3 dead bodies have been found in Kumasi. I will plead with you that this is not true. No body has died under any misterious circumstance”
He however admitted that some four bodies have been reported with no correlation of the COVID-19. One of them although showed symptoms of cough before his demise but have no confirmed reports of being killed by the coronavirus.
“the cases we have received are all inquest cases. One happened at the Atonsu Agogo market. This is where a 60 year old man fell unconscious and sent to the hospital. He died 3 days thereafter. The second case happened at the Sokoban Wood village. The residents at the vicinity attested that he was coughing a day before. He died a day after on police arrival. The other 2 cases happened in the Manhyia jurisdiction. One is a known lunatic and the other is a drug addict that died” the Ashanti Regional Police PRO provided this detail.
He finally entreated the media to be professional and refrain from publishing false news. According to him, people dying under inquest circumstances is something normal.
“let me state that inquest cases are not new. It normally happens. We will plead that the media should desist from creating fear and panic” he added.
