Various deserts that Africans journey to Europe

According to the Organization for Migration (IOM), many African migrants travel to Europe Through the Sahara desert. These migrants often face the danger of being left behind by human smugglers. Almost every journey by Africans through the desert has left them scathed. Here is a quick look at some of the routes often used to get to Europe.

1 . To begin with, SAHARA DESERT

Many Africans travel through the Sahara desert to Europe. It is the third-largest desert in the world. Traveling across this desert is very difficult for those who try to use it. That is because there is no water and the sand is extremely hot making estimation of distance quite impossible.

The journey across the desert is tedious because every step takes a while because your feet sink into the sand before it comes up again. The Sahara desert is a dangerous place to travel as it is ungoverned hence many scoundrels often attack migrants and Rob them of their belongings. Due to the heat, many migrants lose their lives as they get suffocated

2 . Secondly, LIBYAN DESERT

This desert has become the starting point for most migrants who want to cross the Mediterranean Sea

3 . Also, CENTRAL MEDITERRANEAN

Most Africans who want to travel to Europe travel across the Central Mediterranean in the hopes of reaching Italy. Libya has become the transit point for many Africans who are illegally moving to European countries. Due to the political instability of the country, the European Union has supported the Libyan guards so they intercept and return these illegal migrants to their home countries.

4 . Lastly, KALAHARI DESERT

The Kalahari desert is a large sandy area in southern Kgalagadi Africa and spans 900,000 km² (562,500 sq. Mi. It occupies almost all of Botswana, the eastern third of Namibia, and the northernmost part of Northern Cape province in South Africa.
