University of Virginia admissions without application fee for 2024–25

The admissions procedure of the University of Virginia’s School of Engineering is intended to attract a diverse pool of potential graduate students who are also intelligent, motivated, and well-rounded. The admissions committees for each of our graduate programs examine each applicant’s whole application, looking for evidence of academic prowess, prior research experience, demonstrated leadership, and an intense interest in the applicant’s chosen field.

Information Regarding Fee Waivers

The School of Engineering and Applied Science is pleased to share the news that the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and the regular application fee of $85 will not be required for admission to any of our graduate programs in the year 2024.

Applicants don’t need to fill out a form or enter a code to receive the fee waiver because it will be applied to the application in its entirety automatically.

• Ensure that you answer each question in great detail.

CV

• Degrees obtained from institutions of higher education, together with the date of graduation, grade point average, and class rank (if known)
• All certifications, in addition to other types of training
• Provide in-depth explanations of any research experience and leadership roles you’ve held, including the names of any advisors.
• All publications, such as scholarly journal articles and presentations given at conferences
• Professional experiences, to which you should also add names of businesses
• Scholarships and work-study opportunities in the fields of research and academia
• Previous experience in the classroom
• Any kind of community engagement and service

Recommendations Letters

• Make your request for letters of recommendation well in advance, and be sure to remind your recommenders as the deadline draws near.
• Ensure that every writer can attest to your character and the potential for success you have in graduate school.
• Consult with professional research advisors
• Include professors with whom you have had multiple classes or who have been particularly helpful to you in the completion of tasks.
• Include any applicable former employers

• Have you triumphed over any challenges or setbacks that exemplify your tenacity and enthusiasm (this answer can also be used to justify any gaps or low metrics in your academic record)?
• How do the research interests that you have align with the research interests that the program’s professors have?

GRE

• The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is completely voluntary for all applicants.

The TOEFL and IELTS

• All individuals whose first language is not English are required to take either the TOEFL or the IELTS exam.

Duolingo exam scores can be submitted by applicants as a supplement to the TOEFL or IELTS examination; nevertheless, Duolingo does not fulfill the university’s requirement for an English language examination on its own.
